Beet Box CSA Allyship

Hours Per Week: 8-15 hours

Days: Tuesday 12-4pm, Saturdays 10AM-4pm plus 1 other week day for 2-4 hrs of outreach

Compensation: Unpaid but can provide a monthly bus Clipper card and a weekly share of produce

Description:  

This position will support the expansion of a clinic-based farmers market and associated equitable Beet Box CSA (weekly produce box) in the North Oakland Flats.   Applicants will learn about community and clinic-based farmers’ markets, setting up food hubs and creating alternative produce distribution models.  Applicants must be self-organized and independent to work in this non-hierarchal organization.  This position has elements of community outreach/organizing, customer service, marketing, and manual labor. Responsibilities:

• Help set-up and take down Saturday/Tuesday Farmers’ Market and CSA
• Help set up, pack, deliver and take down Beet Box packing area at the market
• Coordinate stock and delivery of Youth Pickle Co. pickle products that accompany customer’s CSA orders
• Table at events, in front of grocery stores, and at other farmers’ markets to promote the BEET BOX equitable CSA.
• Possibility of helping recruit additional vendors for our farmers’ markets
• Support farmers market committee

Position Requirements:

• Basic math skills
• Ability to work in diverse environment with children and families
• A passion for social change
• Ability to lift 25lbs
• Outgoing
• Self-motivated
• Ability to speak to strangers and make “cold calls” to local businesses and organizations
• Preferably able to ride a bicycle with a provided bike cart
• Have a driver’s license and/or have your own automobile (not required)
