What it is about

  • This course is for you if you are a new computer user and want to develop your foundational computing and information literacy skills. You will learn about how to use a computer, set up users, peripheral devices and home networking. You will also learn about how to use social networking positively and ethically, protecting your privacy, and protecting yourself from cyber-criminals by securing your computer and online presence.
  • This course is brought to you by APEX Education in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). Internationally, the QS World University Rankings ranks CMU 27th among the top universities in the world in the most current (2012–2013) world university rankings and 20th in the United States. Carnegie Mellon is ranked 1st for graduate studies in computer science.

  • You can take as long as you need
  • Recommended study load: 12 hours 
  • Slowly: 3 weeks (4 hours per week)

  • What steps you can take to protect your PII online
  • When is your computer compromised and at risk
  • Tactics cybercriminals use to attack your computer
  • How to protect yourself from cybercriminal attacks
