Child Struck by Family Car

by: Emma R.

The day after Spalding Street quiz team departed, tragedy struck. It was raining hard outside, so it was easy not to notice that little Penny Brooks wandered out of the house and into the driveway. Though Melody Brooks, Penny’s older sister,  tried with great effort to warn her mother, but not being able to speak

prevented her from succeeding in that.

Melody had insisted upon going to school that morning, her mother revealed, “She wanted to show everyone that  the atrocious behavior of the quiz team had not beaten her down. She tried so hard to warn me,” she continued, “But I was in such a terrible mood, I thought she was just throwing a fit.” And she was, but for a reason that will be in their minds for quite a while.

Penny had wandered into the driveway unsupervised, because her father had assumed that she had been right behind him when he went inside. Then, her mother, fed up with Melody’s ‘temper tantrum’ , accidentally rolled her car over Penny’s leg. The traumatized toddler will be perfectly fine, her badly broken leg being  her worst injury. The little girl’s only distresses appear to be that the cast is uncomfortable, and that she wants her ‘doodle’.
