Infinite Campus Update

There is an update to the Student/Parent App.   A district ID is no longer required!  When the app is launched you just have to type in "Natrona" and choose Wyoming and then it will find our district (twice) it doesn't seem to matter which one you choose.  Next the user will be prompted to enter their username and password.   The iOS app is 3.0.9. For android it is 2.5.4

Please remember, we do not have student supervision until 8:00Am daily. If you need to be to work before this and need supervision for your child please check into before and after school care at Boys and Girls Club or YMCA.

A Note from the Principal

Greetings Team Cottonwood,

On behalf of the staff at Cottonwood Elementary School, I am happy to welcome you to the 2017-2018 school year!!! We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure everyone can achieve his or her highest potential. Set your expectations high and students will strive to achieve them. A great school is built on a solid foundation of shared goals and objectives. Students, families, teachers, administrators and community members must be committed to achieve greatness for our school.

Cottonwood’s foundation is built on high expectations, hard work, student engagement and a deliberate unwillingness to let students fall behind. Cottonwood Elementary School has a strong commitment of educational excellence and a long history of doing great things for students. This year we will continue to strive for great new opportunities while continuing some of our great previous work like Power of an Hour, Bully Proofing, Caring Community, Houses and many other great things!

Heading into my third year as your principal is very exciting. My first and second year gave me a great opportunity to learn so much about our school, students, parents and staff. We have started making a lot of necessary steps forward in regards to academics, social and emotional needs of students and overall FUN at our school. I cannot wait to continue this work with you all.

Please ensure you read through this handbook with your children and discuss with them the importance of following these expectations. We look forward to an incredible year with your Cottonwood Wildcat!

In Partnership,

Mr. Brian Doner – Cottonwood Principal

A quick note from your Cottonwood School Nurses:

that learning can take place!

- We will be doing Track day is on June 2nd,  if your child has exercise induced asthma and no medications at school please try to plan on being there with their emergency medication.

- As the school year comes to a close please remember to plan on picking up medication during the last week of school, the school district cannot store the medications over the summer and any medications will have to be disposed of if left at the school. We are no longer able to send medications home with students after school.

Be safe and have a great summer!

Spring/Summer Safety Tips

- Make outdoor time a safe time – have kids wear a helmet when riding bikes, skateboards, and scooters. Knee pads and elbow pads are easy to wear and add more protection.  Make sure children are playing is safe areas away from vehicles and with supervision.

- Stinging insects are back – If you or someone you with are stung, remove the stinger as soon as possible with a scraping motion. Wash with soap and water and apply a cold compress. If trouble breathing, severe swelling or fainting occurs, call 911 or an emergency number right away.

- Heat exposure:  Illness facts - Children can develop heat exhaustion and become seriously dehydrated when in the hot sun for too long.  Symptoms include pale skin, dizziness, headache, fatigue, nausea, and vomiting.   Safety check – Keep children indoors during heat waves.  Make sure they have plenty of fluids even if kids say they are not thirsty.  NEVER leave a child in a car, which can heat up quickly.

- The City of Casper has resources! If you and your family are struggling or you know if someone in our school who is- please let the school and/or school Nurse know. This can be in relation to healthcare, food, vision/glasses, housing, dental care, etc. We want our kids in safe and healthy environments.

The final Parent Group Meeting of the year will be Tuesday, May 16 from 5:30-6:30pm at Cottonwood with dinner and childcare provided.

Please come and help finalize the plans for Last Blast.  We will also elect our officer team for next year; our officer team includes President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.

We need volunteers to help with Last Blast, if you are able to help please contact Amanda at 307-259-3922 or Kim at 307-277-8793

The Parent Group would like to remind our families that May 1-5 is Teacher Appreciation Week.  Please join us in showing our awesome Cottonwood Teachers and Staff some love and appreciation for all their hard work and dedication for our children.

Thank you to everyone who came to the Arby’s fundraiser, we appreciate your support!

Myth: The Parent Group is just for stay-at-home moms

Fact: The Parent Group is for EVERYONE!  Our volunteers are mothers and fathers, grandparents, and other adults who fill those roles.  We have a range of volunteers who stay-at-home, work part and full time, are continuing their own education; have little ones at home, in preschool, and older kids; and more.

Myth: The Parent Group has all the help they need

Fact:  We are a small, but powerful group and continue to need volunteers for various events, fundraisers, and committees year round.  WE NEED YOU!!!

Myth: Volunteering for the Parent Group takes too much time

Fact:  Only YOU decide how much time you give and we appreciate every bit of help!  We only have 9 meetings throughout the school year and you can attend as few or many as you want.  Even if you can only help at one event or handle one task per year it makes a huge difference and is greatly appreciated!

Myth:  The Parent Group has the same members every year and everyone knows each other

Fact: Our group changes every year and we love to welcome new members.  If you want to meet other families at school it is a great way to get connected!
