 The BFS User

A person’s weapon is an extension of himself, when someone chooses to wield a blade they impart a piece of themselves into that choice. The moment they pick up a weapon, they have given themselves a definition and there is no prouder example of this than the BFS User. Trained from a young age to serve as elite military officers across many nations, they renowned and feared for their heinously large weaponry, high versatility, and almost inhuman reflexes. They dart around the battlefield in a barrage of steel. They are also capable of harnessing a piece of slain foes and incorporating them into their specialized sword. When a man puts a weapon into his hand, he is shaping the world inside of him and the world around him.

Role: The BFS User excels at engaging fights from moderate distances, hopping around the battlefield to deal massive amounts of damage in short bursts and retreating back. Though they have trained all their life to wield these massive weapons, they are unable to wear any form of armor and focus most of their energy on swinging their weaponry. As such they are relatively frail for martial fighters and rely on short bursts engage to dispatch their foes.

Class Features

The following are class features of the BFS User.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A BFS User is proficient with the sword he is given once he completes his elite tactical training and all simple weapons. He is proficient with no types of armor or shields.

BFS: The BFS User is given a special sword equipped with customizable slots upon completing his training, if he is not wielding this sword at any given time he loses access to all of his class features, save for weapon and armor proficiency and Combat Tactics until he picks it back up. The starting statistics on the sword are as follows, but can be increased using specific essences. This weapon is not compatible with weapon finesse. A BFS costs 1000 gold pieces using normal materials and takes 24 hours. A BFS User may begin this process if his weapon breaks and should he choose he can use different materials to make his blade out of.

The Large BFS:

The Medium BFS:

Over-Sized Weapon Proficiency: Unlike most people wielding weapons size categories above their size by a considerable margin a BFS User only a -2 penalty to attack while wielding it regardless of how many size categories it is above theirs.

Combat Tactics: When unarmored, unencumbered, and wielding his BFS the BFS User adds his Intelligence bonus (if any) to his AC and his CMD. In addition, a BFS User gains a +1 bonus to AC and CMD at 4th level. This bonus increases by 1 for every four BFS User levels thereafter, up to a maximum of +5 at 20th level. These bonuses to AC apply even against touch attacks or when the BFS User is flat-footed. He loses these bonuses when he is immobilized or helpless, when he wears any armor, when he carries a shield, or when he carries a medium or heavy load.

He may also use the flat of his blade to attempt to mitigate damage from an incoming melee attack. A number of times per day equal to the BFS User level when a BFS User is attacked he may make an opposing attack roll, if his attack roll exceeds that of his attacker he may guard against the attack with the damage being dealt to his weapon’s health points.

Essence Gathering: Starting at second level the BFS User, may utilize his ability to extract the power of his defeated enemies in order to augment his specialized weapon. Upon defeating an enemy the BFS User spends one round gathering the essence and placing it in a special containment unit. These essences can be combined to creature Cubes using the Craft Essence skill, more details are described in the Craft Essence section. Essences are very powerful and in the wrong hands extremely dangerous. Only a BFS User is trained to handle them and only through various points in their training may they begin to incorporate them into their weapons. Attempting to do so beforehand is often lethal to the BFS User who attempts to do so.

Slots: As the BFS User levels up he begins to carve holes small cube shaped slots in the side of his weapon. These slots can be equipped with different Cubes that augment his weapon to new heights.

Evasion: A BFS user can avoid even magical and unusual attacks with great agility. If he makes a successful reflex saving throw against an attack that normally deals half damage on a successful save, he instead takes no damage. Evasion can be used only if the BFS is wearing light armor or no armor. A helpless BFS user does not gain the benefit of evasion.

Cleave: On your turn as a standard action you may attempt to strike an enemy at your highest attack bonus, forgoing any other attacks you may have. If this attack lands, you may attempt to strike another enemy adjacent to you at your highest attack bonus -2 (min 0). When using cleave, you take a -2 penalty to AC for the rest of the turn.

Combo Slice:  A number of times per day equal to ½ the BFS User’s level he may engage a swift combination of up to 3 blows as a standard action. Each attack gets a stacking bonus of +1 damage and a penalty of -1 attack. If you succeed in landing all 3 blows the enemy hits receives the staggered condition for a number of rounds equal to  ½ Str Modifier. If two or more of the blows miss it provokes an attack of opportunity. This feat will not trigger cleave.

Oversized Weapon Mastery: The BFS User may now wield oversized weapons without incurring any penalty.

Leap Strike: Leap Strike: As a full-round action, you may make a leaping strike, descending upon your target with brutal force. When you make a leap strike you may move up to your move speed, but a minimum of 10 feet is required, ignoring difficult terrain and obstacles as appropriate as you leap through the air. You deal twice your strength modifier as additional damage on a successful attack, this is not doubled on a critical hit. This otherwise functions as a charge, and any feats or skills that affect charge also affect a BFS user's leap strike.

Greater Cleave:  On your turn as a standard action you may attempt to strike an enemy at your highest attack bonus, forgoing any other attacks you may have. If your attack hits, you deal damage normally and may attempt to strike another enemy adjacent to you, at your highest attack bonus, you may attempt to strike other adjacent enemies at your highest attack bonus for each successful hit. You may not strike the same enemy more than once during this attack action.

Greater Combo Slice:  The BFS User may choose to engage in up to 4 successive blows for a number of times per day equal to ½ his level. Each attack gains a stacking bonus of +2 damage and the penalty of -1 to attack is removed. If all 4 blows are successful the enemy is stunned for a number of rounds equal to ½ Str Modifier. Missing two or more blows provokes an attack of opportunity. If an enemy is slain by a combination slice you may immediately begin a Leap Strike to any enemy in the proper range.

Essence Extraction: The BFS’ User’s constant exposure to essence has given him the ability to extract essence from a foe without dealing the killing blow. If a BFS User confirms a complete combo slice (Lands all blows from the combo slice) on an enemy he automatically extracts an essence from them. You may not do this more than once to the same enemy, and if an essence is extracted this way the enemy will not drop an essence upon death. Gathering dropped essences may now be done as a free action.

Improved Evasion: This works like evasion, except that while the BFS User still takes no damage on a successful Reflex saving throw against attacks, he henceforth takes only half damage on a failed save. A helpless BFS User does not gain the benefit of improved evasion.

Essence Absorption:  A number of times per day equal to the BFS User’s intelligence modifier a day If a BFS User successfully completes a combo slice he may also use the extracted essence to heal himself for 1d8+Int Modifier. If he does this he also receives a +4 temporary bonus to Str and Dexterity. This effect lasts for a number of rounds equal to Con Modifier +3.

Improved Combo Slice: The BFS User may now choose to engage a combination blow of up to 5 successive hits. Each hit gains a stacking damage bonus of +3. If all 5 hits are successful the combination functions as a vorpal blow. Missing two or more blows provokes an attack of opportunity.

Essence Overload: Once per day the BFS User may remove an Essence Cube from his sword and crush it in his hands. Doing so will trigger an Essence Overload, the excess energy will be absorbed into the BFS User’s body granting immense physical bonuses. He will gain a +4 bonus to Strength and Dexterity. He will also gain an additional 40 temporary hit points and all of his strikes are considered critical. This effect lasts for Con+3 rounds. Afterwards the BFS User suffers from Fatigue for twice the duration of the overload and the Essence Cube that was crushed is no longer usable in his weapon unless he crafts a new one.
