What can you do to prepare?

Do your post-secondary research beforehand and review the attached questions to consider based on your chosen pathway (apprenticeship, college, university, or work).

You may also want to bring a sturdy bag to carry all the materials you collect!  Enjoy your experience at the fair and use your time there wisely!

On the Day of the Event: Questions to ask while at the fair.

At the fair you will have a chance to speak in-person with College, University and Apprenticeship Program representatives and ask questions.  Consider using some of the following questions to start a conversation with a representative from the school you are interested in.

Admission Requirements:

What courses are required in order to be admitted into the programs that interest me?
Are there additional admission requirements for admission to the program I am interested in?
Can I go right into Education/Teaching, Law School, Optometry, Pharmacy, Medicine or any other professional program directly from High School?
Do you accept courses that have been taken through night school, summer school and elearning?

Program:

Does your school have (the program that interests me)?
Where can I get more information about (a particular program)?

Are you hosting an open house that I can attend to learn more about the program?

Look at the school calendar or visit the school website for more information.

Finances:

What are the costs involved in attending your school for one year?
Do you award scholarships automatically or do I need to apply?
What are the criteria for your scholarships and when are the amounts determined?

Lifestyle:

How do you apply for residence?
Is residence guaranteed?
What varsity sports are available?
Can you still play sports if you are not on a varsity team?
Campus support services offered especially for new students?
What are the class sizes like at your school for a first-year student?

Next Steps:

When are your campus tours available?  Are you offering any special open houses during the fall?
What can I expect from the information sessions?
Do I have to be in my last year of high school if I plan to attend the information sessions or to take a campus tour?

After the fair, you may have questions you wish to ask of your Guidance Counsellor.  Please come and make an appointment with Mrs. Victorino or Mr. Moran if you feel it would be helpful to your Pathway Planning.
