Legislative Internship

POSITION OVERVIEW: Work alongside PROMO’s Field Director to plan Equality Day, PROMO’s biannual lobby day that takes place in February and April (legislative session from January - May).

Community Outreach and Electoral Internship

POSITION OVERVIEW: Work alongside PROMO’s Field Director to campaign for PROMO PAC’s endorsed candidates, politicians that support pro-LGBTQ policy and legislation. The Community Outreach Intern will also work on our business canvassing efforts, engaging and educating businesses on the Missouri Nondiscrimination Act (MONA).

Research and Training Practicum Student

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Research Practicum Student will be the driving force behind PROMO’s ongoing research projects. This person will be the project coordinator for the Show Me You LGBT Needs Assessment, updating research and resources for PROMO’s Cultural Competency Training Program as well as managing other research and resource aspects to PROMO.  Student will also provide research support to the Policy Intern. The ideal time for the Research Practicum Student is anytime between June-December.

Policy Practicum Student

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Policy Practicum Student will be the driving force behind PROMO’s ongoing policy work. This person will work closely with the Manager of Public Policy. As legislative session continues to dictate the cultural climate for LGBTQ people, the work of the policy practicum/internship will be flexible and respond to the work. This role is available during Missouri Legislative Session Jan- May or in preparation for legislative session in the fall.

  1. Work closely with the Manager of Public Policy
  2. Research local, state, and federal policies
  3. Participate in grant report writing

  6. Effectively communicate via email
  7. Represent PROMO professionally at events and tabling opportunities, including Pride Festivals mentioned above, volunteer fairs, and coalition events.

  9. Represent PROMO at coalition meetings concerning health access work
  10. Scheduling meetings with legislative staff to speak with key representatives and senators.
  11. Supporting PROMO staff during Equality Day by working the registration table, presenting Equality Day logistics, speaking with legislators, and assisting volunteer lobbyists.
  12. Assisting with additional legislative objectives and organizational objectives that need to be addressed.
  13. Holding an interest in the Missouri legislative process.
