Mum Market Bag                                                

Materials:

• A bit less than 2 skeins Peaches & Creme Cotton yarn (120 yds per skein)
• Size I  or 5.5 mm crochet hook

Stitches Used:

• ch = chain
• sc = single crochet
• slst = slip stitch
• hdc = half double crochet
• dc = double crochet
• dc 5 tog = double crochet 5 together1
• dc 4 tog = double crochet 4 together2

Pattern:

Round 1:         make magic ring, ch 2 (counts as 1st hdc), 11 hdc in magic ring, join with slst to top of ch 2 - 12 sts

Round 2:         ch 2 (counts as 1st hdc,) 1 hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each st around, join with slst to top of ch 2 - 24 sts

Round 3:         ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), 4 dc in same st, *skip next two hdc, 5 dc in 3rd hdc from hook,*  repeat *  * around, join with slst to top of ch 3 - 8 clusters, 40 sts

Round 4:         ch 2, dc 4 tog (ch 2 + dc4tog counts as 1st dc 5 tog), *ch 5, dc 5 tog,* repeat * * around, ch 5, join with slst to top of 1st dc 5 tog - 8 clusters,  48 sts

Round 5:        ch 3, 8 dc in ch 5 space, *1 dc in top of dc5tog, 8 dc in ch 5 space,* repeat * * around, join with slst to top of ch 3 - 72 sts

Round 6:         ch 1, sc in same st, ch 5, *skip next 2 dc, sc in 3rd dc from hook, ch 5,* repeat * * around, join with slst to top of 1st sc - 23 loops, note - this may not come out with perfect spacing...

Round 7:         2 sl st to top of next ch 5 space, ch 1, sc, ch 5, *sc in top of next chain 5 space, ch 5,* repeat * * around, join with slst to top of 1st sc

Rounds 8-21: repeat row 7

Round 22:         ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), 4 dc in same st, sc in next ch 5 space, *5 dc in next sc, sc in next ch 5 space,* repeat * * around, join with slst to top of ch 3

Round 23:         ch 2, dc 4 tog (counts as first dc 5 tog), ch 5, *skip sc, dc 5 tog, ch 5,* repeat  * * around, join with slst to top of 1st dc 5 tog

Round 24:         ch 2, hdc in same st, 2 hdc in ch 5 space, *hdc in top of dc 5 tog, 2 hdc in next ch 5 space,* join with slst to top of 1st hdc

Round 25:         ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in each st around, join with slst to top of 1st hdc

Round 26 & 27: repeat round 25

Strap:         *ch 1, 8 hdc, turn,* repeat * * 35 times, join with slst to opposite side of purse, break yarn, weave in ends.

Stitch Definitions:

1How to dc 5 together: yarn over (yo), insert hook into next stitch, yo, pull yarn through stitch (3 loops on hook), yo, pull yarn through 1st two loops on hook, pause (you should have 2 loops left on your hook);

yo, insert hook into next stitch, yo, pull yarn through stitch (4 loops on hook), you, pull yarn through 1st two loops on hook, pause (you should have 3 loops left on your hook

Repeat this until you have completed five partial dc (I like to think of it as the “bottom half” of the stitches)

At this point, you should have 6 loops on your hook, yo, pull yarn through all six loops, you can “lock it” in place with a sc… or in this pattern, just move on to the next ch 5…

2To dc 4 together do the same as described for the dc 5 together stitch, only instead of five partial dc, you will have only four, and instead of ending up with 6 loops on your hook, you will only have five…
