Activity 1.2 - Complete steps 1-4

STEP 1: 

View the following presentation- Age of Reason- Introduction.

Also view: SOPHIA: Dannyette Rouse’s “Voices of a Nation - Background Information[1]

While viewing the above presentations, take appropropriate notes that you will refer back to throughout the unit.

  1. Define the Age of Reason in American Literature
  2. Write a brief description of the seven major famous figures/ authors.
  3. What would motivate these people to write what they did? Include both religious and political rationale

STEP 2:  

Form a small group of no more than 3 people. In your group, review your notes on the Colonial period and your new information on The Age of Reason. Discuss predictions for why people were looking for change in American society. Make additions or corrections to your notes as you discuss.

Finalize your answers to A-C from Step 1.What is your definition of the time period, write brief author descriptions and discuss the motivations for all seven authors during this time period.
