Final Exam Essay Prompt

You will write a five paragraph essay in one hour.  Your essay should consist of an introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The outline of your essay should be as such:

Introductory Paragraph:

• Attention grabber
• Introduce the topic
• Thesis statement (topic, your position, and your plan)

Body Paragraphs 3x:

• Topic sentence
• Strong details
• Good examples
• Logical reasoning
• Quotations

Conclusion:

• Restate your main points
• Leave the reader something to think about

Your paragraphs should be well-developed and well-written with little to no mistakes.

ESSAY PROMPT: What is the point of public schools? Many would say that the role of a school is to educate its students.  Millions of dollars are pumped into public schools by collecting taxes.  However, a large portion of that tax money for the school is used by sports and other extracurricular activities.  There are some people who now say we should cut our sports programs and extracurricular activities and put all our money into education (upgrading computers, improving classrooms, purchasing new textbooks, etc).  Do you think this is a good idea?  Should activities be cut in order to improve the educational aspect of schooling?  Argue and explain with facts, statistics, and sound reasoning.  Opinions must be proven with data.
