Dear Monsieur Laszlo,
I genuinely regret being unable to sit for my portrait now. Though I am not laid up in bed I am not feeling at all well and take life very slackly. As each sitting would mean my posing for two or three hours at a time or during the day I am afraid it would be quite beyond my strength to be able to do so. I am resting nowadays in the mornings till after 11 and again after lunch for an hour or so. So you see I could not very well give you satisfactory sittings.
I am afraid to make definite appointments as I dont know what day I may feel too seedy and be compelled to rest in bed, as I very often have to do.
It is possible I may not be going out to India this winter at all, in that case I shall be only too happy to continue my sittings, for the present and

the new portrait you wish to do as soon as I feel stronger. Even if I do go away I shall be certainly back by the end of April next year and with great pleasure will sit for you as you suggest before the June exhibition.[1]
Believe me I am truly more disappointed than I can say at having to delay the portraits which I too am longing to see finished.
I do hope you are feeling all the better for your cure and hoping we will meet soon in the near future.
Yours very sincerely,
Indira D Cooch Behar
