Ram Tips and Tricks: A Quick Guide to Cornell College

Good to know on campus….

When Cornell scores our 1st shot at the Cornell vs. Coe game, everyone throws toilet paper on the court! (Don’t worry about bringing your own-TP provided!)

        1st Floor:        Residence Life

Registrar (come here to add/drop classes)

Business Affairs Office Desk (they cash checks from                                 any Cornell group)

                        Student Affairs

                        Kate Fashimpaur’s office (academic tutoring)

        2nd Floor:         President’s Office

        Dean of the College

        Human Resources

        International and Off-Campus Studies

        Institutional Research

        3rd floor:        Business Affairs Office

        Chaplain’s Office

Some Etiquette-

THE ROCK and the KIOSKS (3 pillars in front of Bowman-Carter) are for legal graffiti, but wait a day before painting over someone else’s graffiti (24 hr grace period)

On the COMMONS COMPUTERS, don’t be on Facebook while someone is waiting...it’s rude!

When PRINTING, save paper! Use 2 sided printing  and 2 or 4 sheets per page (both under Properties in the Print window on the computer)

Save staple time- there’s also a setting to staple when you print.

In the library, second floor of the library is a QUIET STUDY ZONE.

Anyone can make an OC POSTER (check out markers from the Info Desk and use paper by the KRNL office) Birthday signs are wonderful-  please only hang them for 1 day.

Online…

Students can RESERVE ROOMS all across campus for studying or meeting places; just be sure to reserve them on Meeting Room Manager!

Hint: in  the bottom right hand corner of MRM, select “All” for “Display ___ resources per page”

Logging into Self Service you can see your TRANSCRIPT, GRADES, FINANCIALS, and search for CLASSES in the catalog.

When you search the catalogue:

The little red book means the class is full.  The open green book means there’s spots open.

Clicking on the course number (eg ANT 101) will give you a CLASS DESCRIPTION and PREREQUISITES.

Click on “Textbooks” for the ISBN numbers and titles of your textbooks

You can usually get your SYLLABUS online on Moodle. That’s also where your professor may post document assignments.

The DIRECTORY link is on the top of the page by the search bar. You can look up the mailbox number, graduation year, email address, cell number (if they provide it), and residence hall of any Cornell Student, Faculty, or Staff.

If you’re not logged in, you can only see the box number.

On the left side of the Student Portal:

The RIDEBOARD is a great way to post or look for rides.

The BOOKBOARD is under the RideBoard link- it’s a great place to buy/rent/sell textbooks!

MEALTIMES are available on the Bon Appetit website, through the Dining Menu link

Student Senate- you can request MONEY from Senate for your organization.  Submit a Financial Form, which is on the website, then attend the next Senate Appropriations meeting.  The sooner you submit, the better! Plan ahead!

TABLE TENT advertisements- those are the plastic things on the tables in the Hilltop Café.

        Check your PRINTER/COPIER ACCOUNT

Get a PROJECTOR or SOUND EQUIPMENT- Thomas Commons Tech Requests link

        Schedule a HEALTH CENTER APPOINTMENT

RAINYMOOD.COM has a constant stream of rain noises, great for studying.

THE QUIET PLACE PROJECT- Google it when you’re stressed.

DOODLE.COM is a great way to plan events- it lets you take a poll about possible meeting times.

In Mount Vernon…

THE FARMERS MARKET is wonderful. May through October, each Thursday, from 4pm to 6pm in the Old Middle School.Winter Market Schedule is November through April on Saturdays, 11am-1pm. Winter markets are held inside the Community Center Gymnasium.

The BIJOU MOVIE THEATER has one movie a week, several showing times, $6 a ticket. It's a family-based theater, so they will never show R-rated movies. There’s door prizes before every showing :)

Shepley's Pharmacy carries SOCKS.

The elementary school PLAYGROUND is an awesome place to go on adventures in the spring during non-school hours!

LISBON is very, very close to Mount Vernon.  Take advantage of that!   There’s a dollar store there!

COLE LIBRARY has DVDs, books and audiobooks for fun on the first floor!  If you don’t see something you want, tell a librarian and they’ll order it!

There's a BOWLING alley  (Donmar Lanes) near where one turns to go to Lisbon.  (cheap on Thursday nights)

Everything DOWNTOWN stays open later on Thursdays-- so if you want to do dinner in town Thursday's your night.

For orders above a certain price, Kyi Kyi's (in Lisbon) will deliver to your room! Java Hut does free coffee delivery.

The Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group is the place to get involved in the surrounding town.  They’ll set up committees if you have a cool idea, or you can VOLUNTEER and get to know our community members.

Remember...

You are never alone.

There are funds available to achieve your goal  if you keep looking.

If you ever have uncertainty, questions, or don’t even know how to ask a question, anyone on this campus can either answer it or point you in the right direction.

If you want to make something happen, you can.

Never be afraid to ask!!!!
