Subtitles — you can speed up or delay the subtitles to practice your hearing and/or reading comprehension. Guess what is said before you’re corrected by the audio or subtitle.

•  English (or language you understand) movie  with  Swedish subtitles (speed up subs by 2 seconds)
•  Swedish movie  with  subtitles in your native language  (delay subs by 2 seconds)
•  Swedish movie  with  Swedish subtitles  

Download VLC to de-sync your subtitles. When your movie is playing (and subtitle selected and is displaying properly) go Tools > Track synchronization > Subtitle sync: Change from zero to -1 or -2 seconds (minus! it should then say "Hastened"). It will update live so play around until you get a comfortable delay. You can also use hotkeys:

During playback you can press g or h to adjust subtitle delay (adjust step is 50 ms).

If subtitle is ahead of sound, press g

If subtitle is behind sound, press h

You can also lower the video speed with 10%—20% so they will speak slightly slower and it might be easier for you to understand if you are new to Swedish. In VLC, go Playback > Speed > Slower (fine). This will lower the speed with 10%.
