Position:        Special Education Learning Specialist - Middle School (6-8)        

Reports to:        Middle School Principal

Staff, parents and students are actively involved in a culture of expectation and support where individuals are respected, valued and known by the content of their character.


The Special Education Learning Specialist will provide special education support and help to ensure the educational development of the students in grades 6th -8th, providing services outlined in student IEPs. All teachers will be responsible for the adoption of the school mission and vision as evidenced through thoughtful lesson planning aligned with the school’s curriculum components (i.e. Core Knowledge). In addition, teachers will show a commitment to furthering their own professional development and building relationships with families.


  • Provide service and support for IEP students
  • Teach Intervention Classes
  • Conduct and lead IEP initial, annual and triennial meetings
  • Create IEPs and close IEPs as needed
  • Administer comprehensive learning evaluations
  • Coordinate and communicate with para-pros about schedules and responsibilities
  • Communicate regularly with Principal about caseload
  • Maintain proper documentation regarding IEPs, test accommodations, and parent/teacher communications
  • Collaborate with general education teachers and staff regarding IEP students
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Special Education endorsement
  • Background with educating students with learning disabilities preferred
  • Previous experience as a Learning Specialist
  • Proven ability to integrate special needs children and modify and/or adapt curriculum
  • Good diagnostic skills
  • Excellent communication skills including report writing and record keeping
  • Proficient in the use of technology
