Dragon Coin Spending Guide

One of the most nerve-wracking decisions for some Dragonfable players is knowing how to spend their precious Dragon Coins (DCs), whether it comes with the Dragon Amulet they just bought or from one of the special DC packages available. This guide looks to provide you, the reader, with some insights and suggestions as to how you can most effectively spend your DCs.

The guide will first cover the best and most popular DC purchases with a section later in the guide listing suggested items of what a player should get within their DC limit.

NOTE: Due to the prevalence of DC Bonus sales, where you get anywhere from +25% to +50% more DCs (so under a +50% bonus, buying 1000DCs actually gives you 1500DCs for the same price), it is preferable to buy DCs during such sales. Dragon Amulet and Doomknight DC packages are excluded from this bonus, however.

NOTE 2: During Black Friday, some items get a 50% discount to their sticker prices here, so having DCs available for Black Friday is something to take note of.

Before We Start: What Items You Should NOT Get

There are some items in-game that are just not worth getting for DCs, unless you are a massive whale and don’t have any limits on your spending. The guide will be littered with such examples, but I’ve compiled it here for easy reference:

• NDA Anniversary Scythes (Grossly overpriced)
• Temporary X-Boosts (not worth spending DCs on something that isn’t permanent UNLESS you know that you will be grinding levels quickly over the next week/month)
• Low-level DC gear for stats (these tend to not be upgradeable, and you will out level them quickly)
• High-level DC weapons for show effects (you get the same effect as the low-level ones just at a higher price)
• DragonLord Artifacts - Dragon’s Rage + Wrath and Patience + Bulwark (Purchasable for 25k + 300k gold each, unless you really want to get the unique modifiers at a low level you should just save up for it later in the game when gold is in abundance. While they allow interchangeability to upgrade between the gold and DC upgrade paths, it's still not recommended to use DCs on it.
• Ascended ChickenCow Armor (at 1800 DC, it is really not worth getting something that can be grinded in-game, and to top it off, such lousy skills)

Essential items

These first few items provide invaluable Quality of Life improvements that make them near universally seen as must-get DC purchases, if you have to spend DCs on this game at all. In no particular order:

Armor Closet 

Price: 1000 DC (500 DCs during Black Friday Week?)
Location: Cysero’s Orb beside your house, under Dragon Coin Shops’ “Stuff!”

The Armor Closet is one of the most convenient items that you can acquire in Dragonfable. It is a house item that allows you to equip/save any class that you have unlocked so far in-game. This saves time for trainable armors since you no longer have to travel to a specific location to equip your armor, while you get to save on inventory space for DC armors since you can bank them and still be able to access from the closet. The Armor Closet also allows the user to access seasonal armors (Evolved Pumpkinlord, Frost Moglin, etc.) that would otherwise be unavailable outside of the duration of the seasonal events.

Chaosweaver

Price: 1800 DC, Lvl 50 Purchase requirement
Location: Unvoided Ravenloss (Book 3) Fire Paradigm

Chaosweaver is a highly recommended purchase, as the class’s skillset makes it a class capable of both questing and bossing, compared to the other DC classes which are more specialized towards bossing specifically. Gambit’s +175 Boost buff makes defeating quest mooks easier due to the increased damage, and empowering it lets your first attack benefit from this buff immediately. This gives it the ability to defeat even most end-of-dungeon bosses in 1-2 turns, and makes its eGambit-boosted Dominance multi attack the biggest multi in the game. This also means that Chaosweaver makes quick work of solo bosses, making it one of the recommended classes to grind the Inn’s A.A.R.G.H. system with.

Dragon Chow

Price: 2 points for 10 DC, 5 points for 25 DC, 10 points for 60 DC, 20 points for 150 DC

Location: Click on your Dragon Amulet, “Buy Dragon Food”

Even after attaining the first free 200 points from growing your dragon through its 2 stages, investing DCs in Dragon Chow is ideal as it speeds up the process of maxing your dragon’s skill points, bringing the time it takes from 20 months (with plain old dragon chow) down to possibly 20 Days (with gourmet dragon chow). However, with speed comes the cost of being not at all economical. By using gourmet chow all the way, you will have to spend 3000 DCs purely on dragon chow alone, a luxury some may not be able to afford. Alternatively, if you don’t mind waiting it out a bit you could feed your dragon with super special dragon chow all the way and be able to max your dragon in 80 days at a discounted rate of 2000 DCs.

Luxury Conveniences

These items are not as essential as the first 3 items, but they all provide some utility or Quality of Life improvement that makes them worth being mentioned on this list. Again, in no particular order:

Anniversary Scythes

Price: 500 DC

Location: Shops Button of the Book of Lore, under the “Seasonal Items” Tab (June only)

The Anniversary Scythes (Doomed Dragon Amulet Scythe of the Elements, Dragon Amulet Cleaver of the Elements, Radiant Dragon Cleaver of the Elements, and Ancient Dragon Amulet Scythe of the Elements) are some of the best weapons you can get in Dragonfable, and are even considered best-in-slot (BiS) for certain elements as well. These scythes allow you to switch between eight different elements (Darkness, Light, Fire, Water, Wind, Ice, Energy, Stone OR Nature - depending on the scythe). Another perk of the Anniversary Scythes is that they can be upgraded every ten levels at the B.M. Moglin in Falconreach.

If you are only able to afford 500 DCs for one of the scythes, you have a choice between the Doomed Scythe or the Dragon Cleaver, which both have the advantage over the Ancient Scythe of having a tighter (and therefore more consistent) damage range. The differences between the 2 are as follows:

• Doomed has both the Stone element for its Earth attunement and has the easier switching mechanism
• Cleaver has the even tighter damage range and the more relevant endgame resistances. (And Radiant Cleaver is just the same weapon that's CC for 50 more DCs)

NOTE: Do not get the non-DA version of the scythes, which cost ten times as much but literally have the exact same stats. If you are an NDA player, you should be spending the money on a Dragon Amulet instead of getting the NDA version of the scythes.

DC Armors

Price: Ranging from 11 DC to 1800 DC; most of the good ones are priced at 1800 DC

Location: Cysero’s Superstore, Classes Section/Shops button of the Book of Lore, under the “Armors” Tab

Some of the strongest armors in the game are DC armors - however, it does not mean that every DC armor is automatically a strong one. These are some options you can consider purchasing after getting Chaosweaver:

If you’re looking for an objectively powerful armor with no regard to the fun factor, you may consider Kathool Adept (1800 DC) as an option. Although extremely powerful, the armor revolves around three to four useful skills, with the rest as fillers.

Alternatively, Pyromancer (1800 DC) is another armor that is notable for its ability to be tanky while having high burst and DoT damage. Despite the lack of a conventional shield, it has access to numerous healing sources, as well as other damage mitigation tools, in the form of multiple purges and debuffs, as well as a dynamic resistance shield.

Note: With most of the Book 1 story classes having been reworked, these classes are no longer as prevalent as they used to be. DC Armors are now generally purchased for playstyle preference rather than power spike.

Slot/Show Effect DC Weapons

Price: varies

Location: varies

Some DC weapons in-game have neat slot/show effects that would give an edge in battles. The main list to pick up includes (in no particular order):

• Dragonknight Relics (150 DC for weapon, 400 DC for the Helm/Cape each) *Note that since May 2026, these have been nerfed to +10% (+25% with the full set) in the Inn
• Vile infused Rose Weapon (50 DCs for the base Rose Weapons)
• Unity/North weapons (also known as 4oj weapons) (100 DCs for a single weapon)
• Lucky Hammer (125 DCs)

Because these weapons are bought mainly for the show effect and not for the stats, it is recommended to get the lowest leveled ones since they are more likely to be cheaper. A level 10 vs level 90 shown weapon still gives the same effect, so there is really not much reason to get the higher leveled one (unless they both cost the same price, then you could just get the higher one).

NOTE: While the Dragonknight weapons' effects can be slotted, and hence do follow the advice to be bought only for the slot/show effects, the corresponding Dragonknight Cape and Helm cannot be slotted for their respective effects, and thus need to be equipped. As such, it is recommended to buy the highest leveled version (lvl 80) of the Dragonknight Helm/Cape.

Monthly DC Items

Price: varies

Location: Shops Button of the Book of Lore, under the “Seasonal Items” Tab

Every month, there are special items released that cost DCs. These DC releases tend to have unique effects or cool designs, while rarely being a BiS item (although that has happened before, the devs have changed their releases to deviate from this). Hence these items are not necessarily must-haves, but are an interesting addition to players’ collections. A list of the returning items (generally items from 2018 December onwards have returned, though there are exceptions as the developers attempt to bring back more from the vault) can be found here, courtesy of the Forumpedia Archknight Jay.

Antithesis Weapons

Price: 500 DCs each

Location: Shops Button of the Book of Lore, under the “Seasonal Items” Tab (December Only)

One of the December Monthlies, this weapon set first appeared in December 2018, and then returned from December 2021 ever since. These weapons are notable for having 50 of their respective mainstat (+50 STR/DEX/INT respectively). Combined with a static 96 damage range, this makes them the BiS Offensive weapon for both the Fire and Ice elements. Antithesis Edge in particular is useful for farming applications due to its high damage floor. However, because they do not have All resistance and are 500 DCs each, they are not a priority pick-up for most people.

Storybook Collection

Price: 5000 DC, 2500 DC during Black Friday Sale

Location: Shops button of the Book of Lore, under the “House Utility” Tab

The Storybook Collection allows players to access seasonal content that is usually season-locked (duh). This may be useful as certain niche items may only be acquired during those periods, and the Storybook grants instant access to them. The Storybook is also relevant for players who are interested in lore, as there is quite a bit of content available. However, 5000 DC is quite a steep price and if you don’t mind waiting, the Storybook usually goes on sale for 50% off every Black Friday.

Base Armor Closet

Price: 4000 DC, 2000 DC during Black Friday Sale

Location: Shops button of the Book of Lore, under the “House Utility” Tab

The Base Armor Closet allows one to access to all 3 Base classes (Warrior/Mage/and Rogue) and their respective Dragon Base upgrades (Dragonwarrior/Dragonmage/Dragonrogue) and Atealan Base upgrades (Riftwalker/Ascendant/Cryptic) on the same character, effectively paying the cost of 8 (4 if bought during Black Friday) base class changes at the Black Market Moglin upfront. Unless you want to constantly switch base classes on the same character, this is also a steep purchase, and is best obtained at 50% during Black Friday Week.

Other House Items

Bart: Book 3 DragonsGrasp, go up twice to Bart, Epilogue

Other than the Armor Closet, there are some other nifty items that you can get for your house that really improves the QoL in-game. One example would be Clyde the Stats Moglin (250 DC), which allows you to train/reset your stats from the comfort of your house. Another popular item is the Vault (100 DC) which allows you to bank your stuff without having to head all the way down to Falconreach. Some players also buy the Greenscreen Mirror (500 DC, 250 during Black Friday Sale) for testing purposes, as it also gives you access to the training dummy, or to take screenshots of their character’s fashion. Lastly, Bart’s Potion Vender 2000 (500 DC) saves one a trip to Nieboheim for getting extra potions.

Inventory/Bank Space

Price:

For Inventory Space, first 10 slots - 100 DC each, next 5 slots - 300 DC each, last 165 slots - 500 DC each

For Bank Space,  first 10 slots - 100 DC each, next 5 slots - 300 DC each, last 80 slots - 500 DC each

Inventory space is another area that is potentially worth investing in, especially in the endgame, where players may have varying weapons and gear that they want to keep on hand for different builds. It is also worth noting that inventory space is prioritized over bank space as you can bank DA/DC-tagged items for free.

X-Boost: Unlimited

Price: 1000 DC each, up to 10 can be stacked

Location: Shops button of the Book of Lore, under the “X-Boosts” Tab

Each X-Boost purchased allows the user to gain an extra 10% gold and experience, with the Unlimited option being the only one that can be stacked. You should generally not be using your DCs on the temporary boosts. Since the introduction of stepwise EXP however, it has reduced the need for X-boosts for attaining EXP quickly, though they still have a use of allowing for faster passive gold generation.  

Reforged Calendars

Price: 4000 DCs each

Location: Cysero’s Superstore, Chronos Section/Shops button of the Book of Lore, under the “Armors” Tab

Since July 2021, the Heromart calendar classes have been re-released into the game with new art, with some having received adjustments to their skill sets as well. The only exception to this will be Epoch, who will have its variants rereleased with newer calendars. Because they are 4000 DCs each, one should consider if they enjoy the classes’ different playstyles before spending DCs. Generally, as their performance in questing is overshadowed by Chaosweaver (who costs less than 50% of one calendar class), they are ranked in terms of their bossing performance in the following order, as of the current Inn Meta:
Archivist >>> ChronoZ/ShadowWalker of Time >> TimeKiller > Chronomancer > Avatar of Time/Chronocorruptor

Spending Within Your Limits

Not everyone has the same spending power, therefore this section has been divided into the most commonly acquired DC amounts and how you may best spend them. Of course there is no hard and fast rule, so you can spend it as you wish but these are generally the wisest way of spending your DCs.

200 DCs

To be honest, there is nothing much that you can get at 200 DCs. My recommendation would be to skip this option if possible and go for the $5 add-on, where you get an extra 2000 DCs to play around with. However if you missed the opportunity to do so or simply unable to do so, you can spend the 200 DCs on Super special dragon chow (25 DC each).

2200 DCs

This option allows you more room to navigate around, and opens up a lot more choices that have a greater impact on gameplay/QoL. A popular recommendation would be to get the following:

1. [When it's November] Armor Closet (500 DC)
2. [When it's June] Anniversary Scythe (500 DC)
3. 20 Super Special Dragon Chow (25 DCs each)

OR

1. Chaosweaver (1800 DCs)

Costing a total of 2000 DCs, these items either increase your in-game QoL or are near-irreplaceable at the endgame level. You will also have 200 DCs left to spare and can refer to the above section for further spending.

Another option to consider at 2200 DCs would be to get a DC armor (like Chaosweaver). This is recommended if you’re sure that you really enjoy a certain armor’s playstyle and that you are willing to fully commit to it, or if you bought the 6 DA package and you want to test out an armor on an alt. You will typically have 400 DCs left (the good/fun armors usually cost 1800 DCs), in which you may spend it similarly to how someone with 200 DCs would (except you get to do it twice as much)

10000 DCs

Just bought a DoomKnight package and not sure where to spend all your DCs on? You could get the following items:

1. Armor Closet (1000 DC)
2. 1 DC Armor (e.g. Chaosweaver)
3. Anniversary Scythe (500 DC)
4. Dragon Chow (2500 DC for a hybrid of gourmet and super special chow)

You should have 3.2k DCs left after buying all the above-mentioned items, which you can spend on whatever you prefer for any monthly specials that catch your eye or the DC weapons with show effects.

40000 DCs

Perhaps you just came back from a break or were patient enough to wait out for the full package deal, then here are some of the additional stuff you can get on top of those already mentioned in the 10k DCs section:

1. Additional DC armors
2. DC Weapons with Show Effects
3. Storybook Collection
4. Other House Items
5. Inventory/Bank Space
