Budapest, 29th Oct. 1932

World-famous Maestro, my Hungarian brother, Fülöp László,

At the end of August I received a reply from you saying that you agreed to paint my grandson Edus.^[1] 

I have not been able to sleep since then, each day is a hopeless torture – because the Hungarian post brings no renewed kind invitation from you. In vain do I wait, prayerful and trembling, every morning and evening!

Forgive me for my boldness and do not judge me harshly for it. –

Dear and bountiful Maestro! You gave me such hope – the promise of truly seeing and being able to give – a thing that a poor Hungarian grandmother such as myself can only dream of!

May your noble heart, your bounty and your goodness have mercy on me! Do not allow me to be disappointed! Neither destroy this dream, which springs from pur-

est love – and which is unattainable for me unless I have your gallant helping hand!

I beg – I truly beg you, once again to send me your final, beneficent response and decision on this matter – so that I may sustain myself.

If you could only know what your invitation means, perhaps you would not deny us!

I earnestly beseech you – try to look upon me in the nobility of your heart – a high-flown Talent such as yours must feel my yearning. For the rest, I await your response,

Augusztus végén kaptam Öntől azt válaszul, hogy unokám Edust – elfogadja – lefesti.

Álmom azóta nincs, reménytelen fájdalmas minden nap – mert az újabb jóságos meghívó válaszát – nem hozza a magyar posta – hiába várom remegve – imádkozva, minden reggel-este!

Bocsássa meg merészségem és ne ítéljen el érte.–

Drága jóságos Mester! Ön oly reményt ígért nekem – valóságban láthatni, ajándékul adhatni – miről én szegény magyar n. Anya – csak álmodhatok!

Legyen nemes szívű hozzám, és könyörüljön, jósága nagylelkűsége rajtam! Ne engedjen csalódni! Ne semisítse [sic] sem ezen leg-

tisztább szeretetből nőtt álmom – mely elérhetetlen számomra az Ön gavallér, segítő keze nélkül!

Jóságos válaszát-döntését véglegesen – azért kérem – nagyon de nagyon, újból ez ügyben – hogy ahoz [sic] tarthassam magam.

Ha csak sejtené – mit nyújt az Ön meghívása – talán nem tagadja meg!

Kérve-kérem próbáljon engem úgy látni – hogy vágyóadásom egy nagy nemes szívű – távolba repült Tehetség – megérezze – és a többit Öntől várja
