SentiMetrix correctly predicts the results of Pakistani elections

In a May 9, 2013 article, the BBC’s Owen Bennett Jones explained why the May 11, 2013 elections in Pakistan were too difficult to call (“Pakistan Elections: Five reasons why the vote in unpredictable”).  On May 8, 2013, in front of an audience of over 150 people at the Sentiment Analysis Symposium in New York City, and using a novel set of predictive analytics and sentiment analysis techniques, SentiMetrix co-founder V.S. Subrahmanian named Nawaz Sharif and his PML-N party as the predicted winner.

Less than a week later, the elections results published by major news outlets, such as and the Washington Post  confirm SentiMetrix’ prediction. The strong showing by Nawaz Sharif in this election should come as no surprise from the above slide presented by Prof. Subrahmanian in New York.
