BHS Weekly Reminders April 24, 2017

Congratulations to Riley HIll and Leela Hoerschelman!!  This weekend, the YEA! Team awarded Riley Hill a $1500 scholarship for her service and dedication to our program.  Leela Hoerschelmann won the $500 1st prize for her amazing design in the ReFashion Bash show!!  YEA!!  Go Green :D

Congratulations to Juniors Amber Broadhurst and Julia Williams.  Amber placed 2nd in the Arkansas ACLU Bill of Rights Essay Contest, winning $300.  Julia placed 3rd, winning $100.  Both will be honored at the ACLU Rights of Spring Awards Banquet on May 9th in Little Rock.  

CONGRATULATIONS to yearbook and newspaper staff members and A/V Tech and Film students for 107 awards won at the annual Arkansas Scholastic Press Association Convention in Hot Springs April 20 & 21. A full list of awards can be seen here.

Try-outs

Boys Basketball Tryouts will be Wednesday May 3, 3:30-5:00.  This will be the only day for tryouts and you must have a current physical to tryout.

Cross country tryouts for students entering 9-12th grade next school year will be held on May 9th at 3:45 at the stadium.  Athletes wanting to try out need to sign up with Coach Dale (girls) or Coach Oury (boys).  Athletes must have a current physical in order to try out.  Free physicals are being offered on April 29th.  The paperwork for the physicals can be picked up from Coach Dale or Coach Oury.  The bus for the boys cross country physicals will leave the Building 40 fieldhouse at 9:00 am, while the girls bus will leave at 11:15.  Contact Coach Oury (soury@bryantschools.org) or Coach Dale (kdale@bryantschools.org) if you have any questions.

BHS golf tryouts will be held on May 9 at Hurricane Country Club starting at 3:45 PM.  Tryouts are open to any student entering the 9-12 grade at BHS in the fall of 2017.  Tryout information packets are available in the offices of BHS, Bryant and Bethel Middle Schools, or Coach Griffith’s classroom 8-14.

**Time change for girl's physicals on Sat 4-29; New time 8:15 AM leaving from Building 40; Ride with the girl's soccer team.

If you are interested in trying out for the Bryant High School Tennis team, for next fall, please go to Google Classroom and join the Bryant team, for next fall, please go to Google Classroom and join the Bryant Hornet Tennis Team Fall 2017 class. The code is khw6b47 . Please fill out the survey with your information. Tryouts will be for Girls- May 2 & 4; and for Boys -May 9 & 11 at the Bryant High School Tennis Courts 3:30-5:30pm.  This will be for students entering the 9th-12 grades next year.

You will need to have a completed Physical. The school physicals will be Saturday, April 29. Boys are to leave from the

middle school parking lot at 8:30 AM with Coach Posey and the 9 th grade boys basketball team. The girls are to leave at 8:15 AM with the soccer and golf teams. Be at least 10 minutes early.

If you do not go this day, you will need to get an approved form and have your doctor fill it out. This must be done by the tryout dates.  Please email  swwilson@bryantschools.org. If you have any questions.

Meetings/Information

**Parking tags for the upcoming school year will be purchased now**, during this school year instead of in the summer at Registration. All of the forms will be filled out online using google forms.
        
Juniors: Starting this Sunday, April 30th at 1:00 PM the juniors will receive a link through Naviance to get their parking spot picked out for next school year. Juniors will have until Friday, May 5th at 12:00 PM to bring your money to Ms Prescott in the front office to pay for your parking tag. If you do not pay by then, your parking spot will be released to push back out to the sophomore class on Sunday, May 7th  at 1:00 PM.

Sophomores: Starting Sunday, May 7th at 1:00 PM the form will be pushed out the sophomores through Naviance to get their parking spot picked out for next school year. The sophomores will have until Friday, May 12th at 12:00 PM to bring their money to Ms Prescott in the front office. If you do not pay by then, your parking spot will be released and pushed out to the freshman class (if any spots are available) on Sunday, May 14th at 1:00 PM.

Freshman: Starting Sunday, May 14th at 1:00 PM the form will be pushed out to the Freshman through Naviance to get their parking spot picked for the next school year. The freshman will have until Friday, May 19th at 12:00 PM to bring their money to Ms. Prescott in the front office. 

Arkansas Model United Nations is holding an informational meeting after school in Mr. Heatherly's room 8-25 on Thursday 4/27. The meeting will be about a half hour. If you are a current member or a person interested in joining feel free to attend. We will discuss what Model UN is and the nations BHS will represent at next's years conference.  Please contact Mr. Heatherly if you have any questions.

Will you be taking your FIRST AP course next year? You and a parent/guardian are required to come to AP NIGHT Thursday, April 27th at 6:00  in Love Auditorium.

Youth Alive will be meeting in the MPR Friday morning at 7:30. This is our last meeting of the year.

YEARBOOK DISTRIBUTION DAY IS ALMOST HERE! The 2017 yearbook distribution and slideshow is on Monday, May 8 in Love Auditorium. Here is the schedule:

1st & 2nd Period: Seniors

3rd & 4th Period: Juniors

6th & 7th Period: Sophomores; AP Biology & Music Theory students

JUNIORS: Prestige Portraits will be mailing an appointment card for your senior pictures to your home address in the next few weeks. If you have not received a card by Friday, May 19, email Lisa Stine at lstine@bryantschools.org to check on your appointment time. Pictures are Tuesday, May 30-Friday, June 2 and Monday, June 4-Thursday, June 7.

Chess club will meet Tuesday, May 2, from 3:30-4:30 in Mrs. Stevens room 10-425.

VOLUNTEER SERVICE HOURS:  The annual district-wide cultural fair will be on May 9 from 5:30 - 8:00 at Collegeville Elementary School.  All students and families are invited to attend grades K-12. Volunteers are needed for this event.  If you would like to earn service hours by helping at the event, please email Katrina Cox, ESOL Coordinator, at kcox@bryantschools.org.   Provide your name, grade, first period class, cell number, email, and hours you are available to work.

Volunteers are needed for games, crafts, food, set up, clean up any hours between 1:00 and 9:00.   The ESOL Department will provide you with a letter recognizing your service hours.

SPRING PICTURES: Any student who ordered Spring Pictures from Lifetouch can pick them up from Mrs. Stine in room 10-319.

DEADLINE PUSHED BACK! Students interested in being in the Apprenticeship Program for the 2017-2018 school year need to complete the application via the following Google form. Please note that you have to be in 11th or 12th grade during the 2017-2018 school year, and that you will NOT be placed with a specific teacher/coach. Bryant High is going to select a group of Ambassadors for next year from current grades 9-11 who are willing to invest in the lives of new students that enroll at BHS.  We all know it is extremely hard to move into a new school. It takes time to find a friendly face, to have someone to eat lunch with, to know where to stand in the mornings, etc. We will be selecting a group of students who will be willing to help make this transition easier.  Will you rise to the occasion? We are still taking applications for our Saline County Career Center programs. We are able to send a few more students next year since they are moving to the PTC location on I30. Please let your students know about this great opportunity! They offer Auto Tech, Auto Collision, Medical Professions, Cosmetology, ​Hospitality Management, Baking & Pastry Arts, and Culinary Arts. Students will be at SCCC for 3 periods either in the morning or afternoon (we are working on the times for the afternoon). They get 3 elective credits for these courses. AND can get college credit for taking them! Pretty sweet deal!! Attached is the application for you to print, or students can come by the counselor's office to pick one up.

Fall registration has officially opened for the Bryant Mayor's Youth Advisory Council and will run until May 3rd.  Go to to http://www.cityofbryant.com/index.aspx?nid=1030 for details or to complete your application online.

Interviews will be scheduled for May 8th and May 10th.  You must bring two adult reference letters along with one peer reference letter and a parent consent form to your scheduled interview.

Senior girls: Saline County Sorority Recruitment Informational Meeting will be held on May 2 at 6:00 pm at the Herzfield Library (Saline County Library in Benton). Parents are encouraged to attend, and this is open to girls attending any college.

SENIORS

Senior Saturday will be this Saturday at the Bryant Middle School Gym. It will begin at 9:00a.m. and go until.... it is over. It will be 1 dollar admission; staff is free. The concession stand will be open. Come have a fun day with us!

Seniors.......If you have medication in the health office it will need to be picked up by the end of the day on 5/12.  All medications not picked up will be destroyed.

Seniors please remember to come by and sign the Final Transcript Book in the Counselor's Office.

Balfour will be in the AV room in the Library next Thursday, April 27th from 10:00 - 1:30.
