  • Use quiz questions to quickly test your learner’s understanding of key concepts.
  • Set the Correct Answer(s) to score your learner.
  • To help facilitate further learning, MCQ Answer Explanations can also be added and displayed to your learners after they respond to the questions.
  • You can also allow learners to have multiple attempts at answering the question, and by toggling “Allow Retries and Display Hint”, selecting the maximum number of attempts allowed, and typing in a hint to the learner.

  1. MCQ Poll

  • Use poll questions to gather your learners’ preferences and views.
  • Choose to Display Percentage of learners’ responses to the current learner.

  1. Set a Time Limit to each question.

  1. Set the number of options.

  1. Fill in the options and the question text.

  1. Give it a Question Tag (optional), e.g., according to syllabus, theme, category, or skill, for a more detailed profiling of learner knowledge retention; illustrated by a radar chart in your Analytics Dashboard.

Multiple Select Question Screen

  1. Add a Multiple Selection Question Screen using the “+ Add Screen” button.

  1. Choose an image (optional).

  1. Choose a question type:

a. MSQ Quiz

  • Use quiz questions to quickly test your learner’s understanding of key concepts.
  • You may set more than 1 Correct Answer(s) to score your learner.
  • To help facilitate further learning, MSQ Answer Explanations can also be added and displayed to your learners after they respond to the questions.
  • You can also allow learners to have multiple attempts at answering the question, and by toggling “Allow Retries and Display Hint”, selecting the maximum number of attempts allowed, and typing in a hint to the learner.

b. MSQ Poll

  • Use poll questions to gather your learners’ preferences and views.
  • Choose to Display Percentage of learners’ responses to the current learner.

  1. Set a Time Limit to each question.
  2. Set the number of correction options (2 or more)

  1. Fill in the options and the question text.

  1. Give it a Question Tag (optional), e.g., according to syllabus, theme, category, or skill, for a more detailed profiling of learner knowledge retention; illustrated by a radar chart in your Analytics Dashboard.

Likert Scale

An alternative to the Poll Screen to obtain learners’ views and perspectives. Learners get to answer on a 5-point scale to provide more quantifiable data to your questions.

Open-Ended Question

Use open-ended questions to up the challenge for your learners. Alternatively, they can also be used to collect feedback from your learners. You can specify responses to be mandatory or optional by switching the “Optional” toggle button on the right panel.

Auto-Grading

Open-ended questions can be automatically graded to save you time from manually scoring your learners’ responses:

  1. Navigate to the Auto-Grading tab on the rightmost column of your open-ended question screen.

  1. Enable auto-grading by switching the “Turn on Auto-Grading” toggle button.

  1. Add the Correct and/or Wrong keywords to your question accordingly. Wrong keywords take precedence over correct keywords. i.e., learners who have both correct and wrong keywords in their response will be graded as incorrect.

Note: As of Apr 2021, ArcLab’s auto-grading engine now supports non-Romanized language (e.g., Mandarin, Korean, Tamil). Our SmartTranslate feature also translates the grading rubric into your selected languages automatically.

  1. Add alternative terms or other acceptable synonyms to each of your keywords. To do so, left click on the respective keyword checkbox and select “Add alternative term”. Learners who entered any of these specified alternative terms in their response will be automatically graded as correct/wrong as well. e.g., other acceptable terms for “nano learning” (keyword) that could be included: bite sized learning, micro learning.

  1. Assign correct/wrong keywords as absolute. To do so, left click on the respective keyword checkbox and select “Assign word as absolute”. Answers with absolute correct keyword(s) will be graded as correct regardless of any wrong keyword(s) found, unless the answers also contain absolute wrong keyword(s). However, answers with absolute wrong keyword(s) will always be graded as wrong regardless of any correct or absolute correct keyword(s) found.

  1. Specify the Minimum number of correct/wrong keywords that learners would have to attain for the question to be graded as either correct or wrong.

  1. Similar to MCQ & MSQ, you can allow learners to have multiple attempts, display an answer hint, and provide answer explanations by selecting & populating the respective options in the “Auto-grading” settings panel on the right edge of your screen.

Note: When enabling auto-grading, it is important that your open-ended questions are

well-defined and specific. Avoid constructing vague and abstract questions that could

generate a diverse variety of responses from learners.

Word Unscramble

Gamify learner’s assessment by getting them to rearrange and form words or phrases.

  1. Specify your Correct Answer.

  1. Determine if you would like to give your learners a Time Limit. Once a time limit is set, you can further specify if you would like to Allow Retries for your learners.

Note: If the time limit is not set, learners can try up to 3 times before they will be shown to the next screen and the unscramble question will be graded as incorrect.

  1. Up the challenge for your learners by including Extra Letters in the pool of letters that they will be selecting from to form the word or phrase.

  1. You may also include Answer Explanations which will be displayed to your learners after they respond to the questions (optional).

  1. Give the questions a Question Tag (optional), e.g., according to syllabus, theme, category, or skill, for a more detailed profiling of learner knowledge retention; illustrated by a radar chart in your Analytics Dashboard.

Form Screen

The form screen can be used to collect information about your learners if your project is not restricted to private learner communities (for PRO only, more on this later). You can add up to 5 fields by simply clicking on the “+ Add new form field” button located under the screen settings panel to your right. Then, customize each of your field labels and its respective placeholder text.

Export Screens

For learners who might not have ready internet access, you can export your ArcLab module (either individual screens) or the entire module.

Select the “Image” icon at the top of your Editor middle panel, above the screen, and select accordingly. The files will be added to your browser ‘download’ folder, which can be shared with learners to access offline if necessary. Note: learners viewing the exported file offline are not part of Learner Analytics.

Nano Credentials

Digital Badges to accredit your learners

When learners successfully answer the questions of your Learning Module, reward them and give a word of encouragement.

At the NanoCred Screen,

  1. Give your Nano Credential a name

  1. Upload a customized NanoCred Badge, using your own image or by using a stock image.

  1. Set a Minimum Score for your learner to hit before awarding them the NanoCredential

  1. Set a Time Validity for your Nano Credential to keep your learners relevant

  1. Leave your learner’s an Encouraging Message

  1. Upload a Signature to make it official

  1. A Digital NanoCred certificate can now be emailed to your learner upon passing / completing the module if you switch on the Learner Reports feature (PRO Users only)

Example of how to upload your own image for a custom trophy below.

End-screen Branching

Personalised Learning that caters for different learning speeds

At your End-Screen, send learners with different scores to different resources, e.g., reviewing the basics for those who didn't do so well, power activities for those who ace-d the module.

We're laying the foundations for personalised learning through Screen Branching, because we all learn differently.

Saving your Project

Do remember to save your project periodically by clicking the “Save” icon at the top right of your ArcLab Editor (circled in pink beneath).

Midway through any changes that you’ve decide not to proceed with, you can also restore the last published version of your project by clicking the green dropdown arrow button at the top right of your ArcLab editor, and select “Restore Last Published Version” (circle in green beneath).

Upgrading to ArcLab Pro

ArcLab Basic gives you much of ArcLab functionalities, which are sufficient for a number of our users. Unfortunately, we are only able to provide a limited number of modules (2) in Basic. ArcLab Basic modules are also public, ad-supported and we are not able to provide individual learner analytics at the Basic tier.

For most of our customers, this might not be enough and that’s where our ArcLab Pro tier offers immense value.

ArcLab Pro gives you access to all Nano Learning templates, all ArcLab screen types and other amazing features like private learner modules, inviting designated learners to access learning modules, individual learner analytics, scheduled reports, skills profiling etc. Learn more about the ArcLab Pro features in the following sections.

Upgrading to ArcLab Pro is easy. Simply click on “Account Settings” under the dropdown bar at the top right hand corner of the screen

Fill in your organisation’s details, scroll down to the button and click “Update”.  You are all set!

Creating Nano Learning is always free with ArcLab, even in ArcLab PRO. All you pay are affordable subscriptions for unique ACTIVE learners, regardless of how much learning content they consume.
