Take Action Towards Justice

https://tinyurl.com/y7jwzfu7

Thank you everybody for joining our doc and taking a look. We hope this helps provide ideas and resources so that we can all take action towards racial justice. Please note that we have gotten a lot of great suggestions, and although we really try to provide credit to those who create and/or share these resources, we may get some things wrong or forget. Let us know if there is anything we should correct or add.

Demand arrest of Jarrett Tonn, murderer of Sean Monterrosa (see standwithsean.com)

Script from @TrillMulticultural:

I’m calling to demand justice for Sean Monterrosa. I urge your office to do the right thing and seek justice for Sean, who was brutally murdered while surrendering to police. We demand that Vallejo PD and Attorney General Xavier Becerra fire, arrest, and charge Officer Jarrett Tonn with Sean’s murder. Public pressure will not stop until we secure justice for Sean.

24-Hour Fitness; https://www.blmla.org/organize/

From BLM LA: “24 hr Fitness has engaged in a policy of calling the police on its Black members, resulting in the killings of Dennis Todd Rogers in 2017 and Albert Ramon Dorsey in 2018. Both were unarmed and posed no threat. After the murder of Ramon by LAPD while he was naked and exiting the shower at 24-Hour Fitness’s Hollywood location, BLMLA attempted to engage the company and asked them to do three things. 1) Issue a public statement affirming the value of Black life. 2) Hold a company-wide day-long implicit bias and cultural competency training. 3) Implement alternatives to calling police in non-life-threatening situations. The company refused and BLMLA began a weekly boycott and picket, encouraging patrons to cancel their memberships and workout somewhere else. To honor social distancing, we continue these efforts online”

To local officials such as Mayors, City Council Members, Independent Budget Office, Director of Office and Management for the Mayor: (replace SJ if you don’t live in SJ)

Hello, my name is --- and I’m a (San Jose) resident. I am calling to demand that San Jose Mayor Liccardo and City Council redirect money away from the San Jose Police Department and invest into community resources. This year San Jose spent 40% of its general funds on police, and only 0.05% on housing. This is unacceptable. At this moment, Black people and their allies across the globe are demanding systemic change to policing, and we need to protect our crucial community resources from proposed budget cuts as a result of COVID19. I demand my city’s funds be redirected away from SJPD and into SJ programs that directly support Black lives and the needs of our community: mental health, addiction recovery, housing, education, parks, libraries, arts (enter your own here)
