Welcome to Our Newest Majors: Chantelle Anderson-AEG, and Nicole Kingsley-AEG. Please do not hesitate to let us know how we can best support you with your goals. (Geol=Geology major, AEG=Applied Environmental Geosciences major, EST=Earth Science Teaching major).

Alumni Presentation about Professional Liscensing: WSU GEO alumni Jessica Castleton (UGS) and Chris Howell (AECOM) will give a special presentation on Monday, April 18, titled "What Geoscience Students Need to Know About Professional Liscensing (PG) in Utah." Their presentation will be given in SL 320, 9:30-10:20 am. A free continental breakfast will be available to participants beginning at 9:00 am in SL 328. Please see the attached flyer.

Get Your Geology Club T-shirts! Geology Club t-shirts are on sale through the end of the semester. Please contact via text Kelsey Minnoch (801) 814-1459 or Misti Haslam (801) 544-3719. The cost is $10.

Year-End Picnic & Awards Ceremony: The Year-End Picnic and Awards Ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, April 23, noon to 3 pm. The College of Science is not holding an awards ceremony this year, so we will take time at our picnic to recognize our outstanding graduates and scholarship awardees for 2016-2017. This year's event will be held at the Weber County Fairgrounds and a catered barbecue lunch will be provided. We are asking you to bring appetizers, salads, or desserts to share. Family and friends are welcome. Please RSVP to Marianne so that we can get a rough head count to the caterer. A flyer and map to the fairgrounds are attached.

Maps for Year-End Picnic & Awards Ceremony Attached: Please see the attached maps for our year-end event. Also, please note that if you plan on using your phone to pull up a map on the day of the event, please use Google Maps, because the exact address of our location is not in the MapQuest directory.

Need an Interesting GEO Elective for Fall 2016?: Dr. Carie Frantz, our most-recent faculty hire, will co-teach Geomicrobiology (GEO 3753) with Dr. Michele Culumber (Microbiology). The interactions between microbes and geological processes is a hot topic for current research. Check it out

Spring Tree Planting: Join your WSU ambassadors (and geology majors, Stephanie Mitts & Bart Hancock, among others) as they plant trees across campus on April 20th at 1pm. You'll get up to 2 CCEL service hours, and pizza will be provided. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

Prepare with The Great Utah ShakeOut: Utah has experienced damaging earthquakes in the past and geologic evidence indicates that earthquakes larger than any experienced locally in historical time are likely in the future.This video, produced for the Great Utah ShakeOut, happening Thursday, April 21, 2016, tells you what can happen and how to prepare your home or business for a major quake. We've attached a flyer that offers information for everyone, from newbies to those who've been participating for year.

Internship Opportunity:

The Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance Seeks an Enthusiastic Intern for Summer 2016​. Working with ​their

team of organizers on a variety of grassroots campaigns, the intern will ​help conduct activities throughout Utah to demonstrate support for protecting America’s redrock wilderness. Examples of activities include, but are not limited to: coordinating SUWA information tables at summer festivals, fairs and events, identifying locations for and coordinating delivery of Protect Wild Utah lawn signs, organizing activist events, and assisting SUWA's grassroots team.​ Please see the attached flyer for full information.​

Summer & Fall Registration: Registration for Summer 2016 semester began Monday, and registration for Fall 2016 semester begins Monday, April 11. Please consider touching base with your departmental advisor to discuss your course selections and overall degree progress. The advisors are listed below:

Free Walk-in Geoscience Tutoring: The College of Science Learning & Testing Center is located on the 2nd floor of the Science Lab Building(SL 229). Students can walk in and receive free tutoring for their Geoscience, Chemistry, Microbiology, Physics and/or Zoology classes. The schedule for the Geosciences tutor, Jason Whittier, is Monday & Wednesday, 9:30am-10:30am.
