The present portrait was cut down by a descendant of the artist after 1937.
De László painted Princesse Marie on two occasions, both in Paris, in 1914 [7836] and again in 1921 [7837], for which the present portraits are sketches. It was after the trip to Paris in 1914 that the artist then travelled to Greece, at the invitation of King Constantine, to paint several other members of the Greek Royal family.
