Week 7 Project Final
1) Do you believe in the right to own guns? Learn how you can keep the ones you love safe with proper storage techniques. By Erin Lose
2) Competitive Analysis
a. Their competition if you could say there is completion for a public service campaign would be the National Riffle Association (NRA) They offer physical hands on fire arm safety for parents, children and anyone who owns a fire arm.
b. The second biggest competitor is Project Child Safe they offer a database of where anyone can receive a free lock for their fire arm. They create a no excuses policy and give you a lock to ensure you will protect your family.
c. In light of these top two competitors and their respective competitive advantages, I recommend a competitive advantage of how to protect your family in reference to home protection against predators and protect your children from accidental shootings in your home, which is currently unoccupied.
2b) SWOT:
a. Internal Organization’s Strengths:
They have a large audience of people who know who the National Crime Prevention Council is. They have quite a bit of funding and backing from public schools, family organizations across all states. They have a recognizable mascot which helps people recognize and trust the company.
b. Internal Organization’s Weaknesses:
Too many programs they don’t just stick to fire arm safety they have many programs so schools and organizations could get distracted by things that are more poignant to them than fire arm safety and storage.
c. External to Organization Opportunities:
They should really kick off this for families in areas where there are higher numbers of people who own firearms. Figure out how to get into gun safety courses and promote their program through advertising so that they people taking gun safety can learn practical tips to help protect their family.
d. External to Organization Threats:
People could not take their program seriously because of their lack of gun knowledge.
There may not be a way the they could break in to the field as hard as they would need to so that they could become a powerful source for gun storage and home protect safety protocol.
In conclusion, the SWOT revealed that there is a lot of work to do in reference to breaking in to the field for adults, but it can happen. Therefore, a current strategic opportunity and competitive advantage is the name recognition they have with organizations.
3) Target Market Identification and research
In order to increase the number of families who are protected from accidental shooting the target demographic is white male gun owners ages 25-85 who are married, have children, or grandchildren. The demographic includes those who also live in rural and suburban areas in the Midwest and south where gun owners are the highest in the country.
From my findings of doing a open survey I found that my demographic held to be true and to be a moderate need to families. Most people think they are properly storing their firearms to protect their children when in reality they could be doing a better job. Many said that they would be interested in taking a safety class to specifically teach their children how to handle a fire arm.
4) Strategic Solution: Guns don’t kill people! Help prevent accidental shootings from happening in your home today!
5) 3 Smart Goals
a. Start promoting classes 11/17 for parents to teach their children the proper way to handle firearm. Post the images of injured children from accidental shootings and reach out to them with their heart strings, from the emotional stand point of protecting their children. Promote on Social Media for the next two weeks.
b. Start contacting 5-10 local community centers in the Tampa Bay Area to initiate a relationship and interest in schools by 11/ 18.
c. Hold an information carnival for families one in the St. Petersburg Area on Saturday 11/29 and one for families in the Tampa Area on Sunday 11/30. The carnival will have free food, gun safety related games, and fun interactive teaching sessions. Book Venues by 11/20. Create goodie bags, prizes together by 11/22.Create flyers by 11/20 Send interns out to hand out flyers at the malls and on 11/22,11/23, 11/27,11/28. Send out 3 press releases by 11/22.

5c) My simple budget listing the costs to complete the strategy/project:
1. Rent venues = 400 ea Total: 800
2. Facebook ads promotion = $50
3. Printed Flyers= $500 Dollars
4. Food and Prizes = $600 (300 for each venue)
5. Gas for interns= 30 x 6 interns = $180
6: Press Releases= 250 x3= $750
Total = $1,700
6) Feedback & Evaluation
Many people showed up to the events. The event was a large success. As parents and families were leaving we surveyed many people and asked if they thought it was part of their amendment rights when they have a firearm that they educate themselves and the people around them about the dangers and proper handling or if it was the governments obligation and if so how good of a job do you think they are doing? Many people thought for a moment and said that it must be theirs because the government isn’t doing anything to prevent shootings other than taking fire arms away. The majority of people who showed up the information fair were families and they included parents of all races, types, and genders.
7) Conclusion: The next steps for the campaign would be for send more people out in the public to teach families and children. I think they should have monthly safety course fairs. I think we should reach out to the ptas in the area to get them pumped about this cause and get them to allow us to teach parents and students about safety.
