Competition Rules

The WestCoast Welcome 2025 show is Licensed by Working Equitation Canada (WECan). This competition will be conducted using the current Competition Rules from Working Equitation Canada. The rules and 2025 dressage tests can be found on the WECan website: www.workingeq.ca

A horse/rider pair is considered an entry. A horse/rider entry may compete in only one Level per show. This is a licensed show and rules state that a horse may be ridden a maximum of twice with different riders and the riders must be entered in different Levels. Exception: Two youths or one youth and one adult can share the same horse, at the same level,  if competing in Introductory Level 1.

Allowances for tack and attire are in the WECan rules. Any tradition or discipline of tack is allowed within the parameters of WECan rules.

Any breed of horse or mule is allowed to compete. Horse age restrictions do apply. Horses must be at least 4 years of age as of January 1st of the competition year to compete in Levels L1-L2. A horse must be at least 5 years of age as of January 1st of the competition year to compete in Levels L3- L5. A horse must be at least 6 years of age as of January 1st of the competition year to compete in Level 6.

All riders must be WECan members, Membership forms can be found on the WECan website.

Riders under 18 years of age must have permission to ride in the competition as indicated by a signature from their parent or guardian and must be accompanied by an adult throughout the show.  All competitors under the age of 18 must wear ASTM/SEI approved helmets while mounted.

Use of protective headgear by all riders is strongly recommended by WECan

Horses must be recorded with WECan if you wish to have your results tracked. A Horse Recording Form is available on the WECan website under the ‘Members Area’, ‘Lists & Forms’ tab. Only recorded horses will have their results tracked for achievement awards with WestCoast Chapter and WECan.

All Riders and horse Owners are required to have a current HCBC Membership or another provincial affiliation club membership.

All horses must wear their entry number while ridden anywhere on the show grounds.

Dressage test readers are allowed for Levels 1 to 3 ONLY. Please note that the show will not be providing readers for these levels. However, the show would be happy to accept volunteers to read for competitors.

Any person attending a WestCoast Working Equitation Chapter event must abide by the Working Equitation Canada Code of Conduct: https://www.workingeq.ca/_files/ugd/ca9e2f_c59167ff6bc5432fb1e01778e4f616f6.pdf

Pre-show Seminars

Prior to our WestCoast Welcome 2025 Show, on Friday, July 25th we will be offering two opportunities to warm-up your ride.  The first is an Ease of Handling seminar with our judge, Pam Vust.  Pam will start the day with a full group discussion about Working Equitation and a walk through of some obstacles.  Following this, groups of 4 will have 90 minute sessions with Pam.  The cost for this is $175.

For those who wish to polish up their Dressage performance, Sarah Bradley will hold a clinic, giving private lessons for 30 minutes each.  Cost for this is $125.  As Sarah is our Show Manager and also a competitor, she is generously offering this clinic as a fund-raiser for WestCoast Working Equitation.  Thank you, Sarah, for your support!

For the really ambitious, we offer both EOH and Dressage for a total cost of $225.

As space is limited for these learning opportunities, please get your entries in early!

There will be an open schooling period from  3 pm to 6pm on Friday evening.  For anyone NOT participating in the seminars, you are welcome to warm up in the rings during this time.  The haul-in fee for Friday is $25.00 if you have not paid for a seminar.
