The present work was completed by the artist as a preparatory drawing for the portrait in oil commissioned by the Corporation of Dundee in honour of Sir William High’s thirty years service on the Town Council [5637]. It remained in the collection of the artist until his death as part of a sketchbook, in use by the artist from 1927-29. The finished portrait remains in the collection of Dundee Art Galleries and Museums.
