From the lodge, the Gorge Brook trail crosses the Baker River on a metal bridge. It continues alongside Gorge Brook, crossing twice before arriving at the Last Sure Water area in 1.4 miles. Note that the trail has been rerouted onto the Snapper Trail: follow the well marked signs!  It then climbs more steeply, joining with an old logging road for a while before hitting a series of switchbacks. There are views of Jobildunk Ravine and then a long exposed section known as the Balcony before hitting East Peak, a ill-defined open area. After a short drop the trail hits treeline and approaches the summit.

Directions to trailhead: MT. OSCEOLA TRAILHEAD VIA TRIPOLI ROAD: (2280') This road is usually closed from November to April to snowmobile traffic. From I-93, get off on Exit 31 (Tripoli Road) and head east on Tripoli Road to past the trailhead on the Mount Tecumseh Trail. Mt. Osceola is 7 miles on your left (WMNF Mandatory Fee).

5. Mount Chocoura

                Distance: 7.4 round trip

                Elevation gain: 2500 ft.

The Champney Falls Trail begins by the information board in the parking area. After crossing the footbridge over Twin Brook, the trail turns sharply to the right. In .3 miles the loop will reconnect with the Champney Falls Trail, which becomes steeper. The first set of switchbacks is reached at 2.4 miles. At 3.0 miles the Middle Sister cutoff leads to the Middle Sister Trail. The Champney Falls Trail will reach a saddle and pass the Middle Sister Trail on the left.
