VOL. 2, ISSUE 2 August 2024
On June 9, 2024, The Madison Valley Hub shut down 29th Ave E between E Republican Street and E Harrison Street as part of a multiple-hub drill simulating the second day of a hub deployment following a 6.1 magnitude earthquake along the Seattle Fault Line.
Over 50 volunteers and observers showed up!
We processed local scenarios initiated by actors portraying civilians in need – or offering services and resources – as well as remote scenarios called in from other hubs, simulating messages being transmitted via radio to and from Seattle’s Office for Emergency Management.
THANK YOU to all who participated!
We chose to set up the drill at this location for its higher visibility in raising community awareness. In a real emergency, we will continue to deploy at the MLK FAME Center at 3201 E Republican Street, Seattle, WA 98112, in the parking lot behind the building:
Each presentation will provide an overview of the hazards that can impact Seattle, and steps community members can take to become prepared for the unexpected.

We get it. Putting together a household plan for an emergency may not be a complete oxymoron, but it sounds like a lot of work. It can, however, be broken down into steps. Our friends at the Washington State Emergency Management Division (https://mil.wa.gov/personal) have a Prepare in a Year Plan that walks you through what you can do, one bite-size piece at a time. We’ll give you a preview of some of these little chunks, once an issue. Don’t forget to visit the URL above for the full Prepare in a Year program!
