Dear Mr de Laszlo,
Through our mutual friend Mr John Robertson[1] I have received your very kind invitation to see the portraits of Mr Harold Macmillan [3089] and his wife [possibly 2154] and your further kindness in asking my wife and myself to lunch some time.
I am ashamed not to be able to avail myself of the opportunity but I have not been quite well lately and am trying to keep out of London and then tomorrow I am going down to the South Coast till after Christmas, so I hope you will allow me to defer the pleasure of making your acquaintance till I come back. I was very glad to hear from our friends your very appreciative words on my Spanish exhibition.[2] With
