‘together we are stronger’

What’s happened this week ?

On Friday last week the children of Seahorse class visited strangers Hall. We had a fantastic day and learnt lots about what it would have been like to live at the time of The Great Fire of London. Did you know people used to put sugar in their toothpaste?!

More what’s happened this week ?

On Thursday we welcomed parents into school for our third maths morning which focused on the strategies we use to teach multiplication. It was well attended and there was a really lovely atmosphere. The session was rounded off with the making of counting sticks. More photos available to view on the school website.

More things to remember

Our third Mathemagician Event coming soon!

Theme: Division

Tuesday 16th May @9:05-11:15 Parents welcomed into school to see the strategies used for division and join your child in class. The last one which took place yesterday morning and focused on multiplication was very positively received. The making a counting stick workshop session seemed to go down particularly well.

The whole school population become gardeners!

The children will all bring home a planted seed today to look after and nurture. Each year group are growing a different crop and will be looking after them for approximately a month. They will need to place the pot in a warm place and water regularly. The children will then be requested to bring the young plants back into school week beginning 24th April. These will then be planted on into the Sea Sanctuary garden where they will continue to be looked after by the children.

During the Summer and Autumn terms the children will harvest the crops and these will be used for lessons in healthy eating (including cooking), school lunches and harvest festival celebrations.

The children will be bringing home a letter with the plant with further details of what each year group are growing.

We hope you’ll support us with this so that the garden will be looking great for it’s grand opening. See below for details.

INTERNET Safety: As you will be aware the children in keystage 2 all have their very own Chromebook computer which they use regularly for everything from writing in English, learning times tables in maths to research for subjects such as R.E. and history. They are taught about how to keep safe online and these links are useful in supporting this teaching.

Easter School

Miss Peck and Mr Hopkins will be running Easter Booster school on the first Monday and Tuesday of the Easter Holiday. Sessions will take place between 9:00-12:00 and all year 6 children have brought letters home requesting consent. The sessions will focus on maths, reading and SPAG (spelling, punctuation and grammar) and is additional support for them to achieve age related expectations in the year 6 SAT tests. When we return from the Easter break there will be just 13 school days for further revision until the tests begin.

Snacks at break time and lunch just before the sessions finish will be provided free of charge. We hope your year 6 child is able to join us for the sessions which were very popular and well attended last year.
