New Heroes coming to Hearthstone! No, not new Classes!

The “big” announcement this week is the upcoming addition of new heroes coming to a Hearthstone! These will be alternate avatars for existing classes, not new classes. For example, the only announced addition so far is Magni Bronzebeard as a replacement warrior for Garrosh Hellscream.

These new heroes will be cosmetic only and will cost $9.99 each ($12.99 AUD, 8.99€ EUR, 6.99£ GBP). There will not be an option to purchase with gold. The heroes will have their own sets of recorded emotes and custom Hero Power animations (Magni swings a golden hammer down to activate Armor Up). They will be animated like the standard golden version of heroes are, but without the gold border (unless you have 500 wins on that class).

Finally, the new heroes will enter the board with a special animation, and will have an exclusive card back included per hero.

More than new Hero Portraits?

According to HearthPwn Netease’s Chief Marketing Director said on Weibo that the “main elements of the next patch are not the new heroes. They didn’t show the big thing.” (Netease is Blizzard’s partner for Chinese operations.)

ESL Legendary Series Season 2

ESL held their final event for the Legendary Series Season 2 this weekend. $25,000 and 230 WC points were up for grabs at the event in Burbank, CA. The proximity to Blizzard's HQ meant that many Team 5 devs were in attendance at the event.

3rd and 4th place went to Kitkatz and Demigod, 2nd to Reynad. 1st place, $10,000, and 100 WC points went to relative unknown PHONETAP (all caps is their chosen spelling) from China.

Well met, pissy poultry!

So I recently crafted a Malygos and have been trying out the various OTK decks that revolve around him. I started with Malylock, which had decent results, and then moved on to Rogue. In my first match, I got paired up with a Priest, with me getting the coin. It went like this:

Turn 1: Pass, pass

Turn 2: Gilbin stalker, dagger pass

Turn 3: Deathlord...

So here I had a decision to make. In hand, I had the Coin, two Sinister Strikes, two Eviscerates, and a Deadly Poison, and a Sludge Belcher. Those Eviscerates could be extremely helpful later on, and it would be really irresponsible to blow them both now, when it could pull out something disastrous like a Healbot. So naturally, I did it anyways, and out popped the Malygod! My opponent didn't move for a bit, probably staring at a SW: Pain and SW: Death in his hand and staring, mouth-agape, at Malygos. Finally he went face with the Gilbin, dropped another, and passed. As the turn passed, time slowed down to slowly reveal my next draw: Preparation.

So then my turn 4 went like this: (math included so you guys don't have to do it)

Sinister Strike for 8, (down to 22)

Sinister Strike for 8, (down to 14)

Deadly Poison and attack, (down to 11)

Preparation + Blade Flurry for 8, (down to 3)

Attack with Malygos. (down to -1, boom)

And with 1 mana to spare! Thinking back, I probably should have prepped the Poison or something so I could stay on curve...

I stared at the Victory screen for a couple minutes, unable to stop smiling, and finally went to My Collection and deleted my Malygos Rogue deck. I knew that I could never follow that game up, so I'll let Malygos do his thing in the other classes I try out now.

Anyway, this was one of my favorite Hearthstone moments ever, and I wanted to share! Keep on clucking on!

Hey mothercluckas.

I have a fun little game for us to play. With the introduction of Magni Bronzebeard Hero, Blizzard will probably introducing new alternate heroes for the remaining 8 other classes.

Since all 3 of you are long time World of Warcraft players, what are your guesses as to what the other alternate heroes will be for the remaining classes?!

Just want to pick your brains and have fun listening to your guesses!

Thanks guys (and gal), love the show!

Greetings Flared-Up Foghorns!

I've been playing Hearthstone since the official release, and have been a loyal TAC listener since episode three or so. I absolutely love card games, and Hearthstone is probably the best one I've ever played. But I'm finding myself hitting the same wall I do with almost all other card games: I'm lacking motivation to continue to play a game I only win about 50% of the time.

When I play other video games, I'm always progressing toward something or beating levels. The ladder system is pretty brutal for a commuter with a full-time job, a wife, and two kids. I feel I can't compete in Ranked, and thus I feel I have nothing to work toward. So I find myself not wanting to log on as much. I love this game! But I am just not as excited to play much anymore. I still listen to TAC every Tuesday on the drive to work, though. :)

What can I do to fall in love with Hearthstone again? Please help!

Paul

Hi Cluckers,

I have a question around the meta and the way in which cards are "collected" in Hearthstone.

You get packs and get random cards and you build a collection but let's be honest with the crafting system and the fact that cards aren't really limited we have a game where everyone can have access to everything.

Taking that into account we have professional and expert players streaming, building & refining decks for people to see and use, what is seen as popular is used by a HUGE amount of the player base. Yes the meta changes but we always end up with the same deck types in Ranked because everyone has access to the same cards and the same deck lists.

My question is: would you agree that by making the cards more difficult to obtain we would have a game (more like magic) where not everyone would have EVERY card?

If we had series of cards with limited time in which to earn packs and collect, players may end up with different card collections thus create a more varied meta.

I do understand that there are always people that will collect everything but for the majority of players a world where cards are only available for a certain period of time may help the game, thoughts?

Keep up the good work.
