September 3-6, 2024

Here is what’s happening this week!

ELA

Melanie Carpenter

melaniecarpenter@icimagine.org

This week in ELA, students will continue building foundational skills in grammar. We completed our first writing, our Reading and Writing Autobiographies, and moved briefly through the writing process, scratching the surface on what to expect this year with our formal writing assignments.

We will peer edit and  apply our knowledge of revision work and how we can use our peers to improve our writing.

As we move into book clubs in the next couple weeks, we will start our Deep Study of Character unit, deepening our understanding of character growth.

Math

Steven Sarnie

stevensarnie@icimagine.org

This week in Math  we will be wrapping up our “bridge” unit connecting the gap between 5th grade math and 6th grade math. We will not have any Spiral Homework this week due to the short-week schedule last week and this week. Will introduce integers into the rational number family and begin comparing number values. So celebrate the long weekend with sun, fun and rest.

Weekly Standards

  • 6.NS.3 - Apply and extend previous understandings of decimals to develop and fluently use the standard algorithms for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of decimals
  • 6.NS.5 - Apply and extend previous understandings of numbers to the system of rational numbers. Describe quantities having opposite directions or values. Represent quantities in real-world contexts, explaining the meaning of 0 in each situation.
