Measurement Challenge Exploration
Purpose
To see where you are at with your measurement and calculation abilities. You need to find three different quantities. Be prepared to discuss the methods you used to find each, what your answer is and how much uncertainty you feel is in your measurement.
Quantities to be measured
- Thickness of a single piece of paper.
- Mass of a paper hole punch.
- Time it takes to blink an eye.
Plan of Action
Come up with a procedure for how you will measure each of the quantities listed above. Write down your procedure.
Discussion Questions
- Compare your values to others in your class. Which are similar, which are very different? Should they all be the same? Which one(s) are ok to be different?
- How did you come up with your value, did everyone use the same method?
- What did you do to limit the amount of uncertainty in your measurement?
