This document is a detailed explanation of how to make Call of Duty Zombies blind accessible. It will include both blind accessibility specific features, as well as general accessibility improvements that will help blind players. While some things included in this document may be applicable to Campaign and Multiplayer, it is specifically focused on how these things apply to Zombies.
Screen Reader
The screen reader would need to read all in game and out of game menus. It would also need to be able to read out HUD elements. This could be done through HUD text to speech wheel. Similar to the emote wheel from Blackout, you would use it by holding a button on the D-Pad and selecting an option with the right stick. This would allow the player to choose something to be read by the screen reader such as current points, perks, field upgrade charge, ammo, round, etc.
Audio+Visual Navigational assistance
This system would be based on the Transmit objective from Call of Duty Vanguard Zombies. There would need to be a sound added for when the orb is not moving, as well as when the player has reached their specified location. Players would choose a location they want to go to using a wheel similar to HUD TTS system mentioned previously. However, this wheel would contain many more options which would require tabs that could be scrolled through using the bumpers. The nav assist would be able to guide the player to all rooms of a map, all perk machines, pack a punch, crafting tables, and any other important locations on the map. There could also be an option for the player to double tap the square button to lock and unlock from the orb’s path, giving the player choice of how they want to navigate. The nav assist would also work for main quests in the directed game mode.
Aim assist settings
There should be an option to have aim assist lock onto the nearest zombie regardless of their location, including off screen. It should lock on and follow their movement. There should also be a setting to have a sound play when aimed at an enemy.
General Environmental Audio Options
There should be an option to have perk machines constantly play their perk jingles. There should also be an option for other things to have persistent sounds such as ammo boxes and the mystery box. It would also be great to have an option for a sound to constantly come from your teammates making it easier to follow them.
Audio Descriptions
There should be audio descriptions available for all cinematics including intro cinematics, in game cutscenes, and ending cutscenes.
Difficulty Options
The Casual difficulty option from Black Ops 4 Zombies should return, as well as a brand new Very Easy difficulty option. This will allow all players to play the game at the pace they are personally able to keep up with.
