The children will be able to tell time to the hour on an analog clock.

 

 What do we use to tell time?

  1. The teacher will ask the children to name an event that takes place at almost the same time every day.
  2. The teacher will explain that a clock is used to tell time.
  3. Point out the long hand and the short hand and the numbers 1 to 12 on the clock face.
  4. Have the children say o’clock when the long hand, is pointing to the number 12.
  5. This is when the time is on the hour.
  6. Move the hour hand to show 1 o’clock. When the short hand, or hour hand, is on the 1, it is 1 o’clock. the short hand tells the hour.
  7. Ask the children: What do you usually do at 1 o’clock in the afternoon?
  8. Repeat, showing 2 o’clock, 3 o’clock, and so on.
  9. Discuss what activities children usually do at each hour throughout the day.
  10. Ask: What activity we do at 8:00 o’clock? What do we use to tell time? How does a clock helps you?

The children will make clocks out of paper plate to tell time. 

What time is it in your clock? 

  1. Ask the children the following questions: What activities do you do at in the mornings? What do we use to tell time? How does a clock helps with your activities?
  2. Explain that clock making is an ancient art, and that some people collect clocks for their beauty.
  3. Distribute paper plates, crayons,  minute hand, hour hand, and brads.
  4. The teacher will model make an analog clock.
  5. Help the children put together their analog clock.
  6. Explain how to use the clock.
  7. Model and identify 4 o’clock.
  8. Have the children move the hour hand to 4 o’clock.
  9. Move the hour hand around the clock face to show various hours.
  10. Have the children move the hour hand around.
  11. Ask: What activity we do at 8:00 o’clock? What do we use to tell time? How does a clock helps you?
