From the Headteacher
This week we have be talking about having a ‘growth mindset’ with the children and whilst this is embedded in everyday practice across the school but we often have reminders to just ensure we all understand the importance and benefit to having a growth mindset. I have created a presentation for adults to read that explains the research behind ‘Growth Mindset’ please click here. In the presentation there is a link to a TED talk for parents who are interested to find out about Professor Carol Dweck who created the phrase ‘Growth Mindset’ and her research behind it. There is also a link to youtube videos for older and younger children that you could watch together and may provide a good starting point for discussion. If you don’t have the time to look at the presentation then please talk to your child about the ‘steps’ below and which ‘steps’ are most important.
Brain Awareness Week
Don’t forget it is also ‘Brain Awareness Week’ the 13th to the 19th of March and we have planned a day to work with our Neuroscientist STEM ambassador again. This will be the 16th March and children will work with Dr Clare and her team throughout the day.
We would like to invite Reception Parents to come and work with their children to make a brain and learn all about how it works. These sessions will run from 9.00 to 9.30 and 2.30 to 3.00. Please be aware these sessions will not be appropriate for any toddlers. A separate sign up letter was sent home with Reception children today please send it back in asap so we can plan numbers and resources.
One of our school pianos has seen better days and really needs replacing. Rather than using valuable funds on purchasing another, I was wondering if any of you have (or know someone that has) a piano in good, playable, condition that you/they would be prepared to donate to the school, please contact the school office.

NEW! - Hagbourne Class Pages
Class Teachers have created a new website, Hagbourne Class Pages, where Parent Information Letters and Learning Webs will be posted each half term. We will alert you when these are available and in time we hope to include more news and information to showcase the children's learning. This half term's information is already available.

Youlbury Trip Year 4 - Parents’ Meeting
Wednesday 1st March at 5.30pm at school to update parents on the trip, clothing requirements etc. Do please come along as there will be lots of useful information.
Also please note that any outstanding payment for the trip needs to be made by the 17th March, this can be done via Parentmail or by cheque/cash to the school office (in a clearly named envelope please)
Head Lice - please check your child
We have had further reports of head lice, please check your child/children carefully and treat the whole family if any head lice are found.

Reception/Year 1 Parents/Carers
For the security of your children, please note that there is no access through the wooden gate to Reception or Year 1 classes after 8.50 each morning. If you need to drop anything off for your child or collect them early from school, please report to the School Office.

* Year 4 Class assembly - this will be a ‘Celebration of our School Values’ and we will be inviting members of our local community to join us. The assembly will be led by Father Jason and Year 4 children. It will start at 2.00pm with tea and coffee from 2.30pm
World Book Day 2017
Next Thursday the whole school will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of World Book Day. We will be running a wealth of fun activities throughout the day designed to encourage the children's love of books and reading.
We are inviting children to dress up for the day as their favourite book character, cost £1. Please ensure costumes are appropriate and safe for school activities!
We will also be selling raffle tickets outside the front door on Wednesday 1st March from 3pm - 3.20pm, and on Thursday 2nd March 8.25am - 8.40am. A variety of publishers have donated a large number of wonderful books for a book tombola - some boxed-sets, the new Roald Dahl dictionary, and even some books signed by the author! Raffle tickets will cost 20p each and the draw will take place during the day's celebrations.
We will be holding a Grand Book Swap event in the afternoon. Children are invited to bring a book that they no longer need to swap with other pupils. It is a great way to refresh books that you have at home. Children will only be able take ONE book - if your child would like to bring more than one then these will be either offered to those who have not brought a book to swap or donated to the school library. Children really enjoy choosing books recommended by their friends, so please encourage them to promote their book to the others in their class before swapping!
At 2.30pm, parents are invited into their child's class for a shared reading session. You are warmly welcomed to come in and choose a book in the classroom to read and enjoy with your child.

Sunday Club - St Andrew’s Church
For children aged 4-11: St Andrew's church have a children's club at 10.30am on the first Sunday of every month during our morning service. New members welcome.
