Dear Mr László,

Not having heard from my brother since last August, I am taking the liberty to write to you, to find out if, by any chance you happen to know whether he is alive or dead.[1]

I should feel grateful if you could find time to grant me a few minutes conversation, at your convenience, that is to say if, you can conveniently do so, if not I should be glad to hear from you by post…

I am glad to say that I have, for the last thirteen years been a naturalized British subject and have actually a son serving with the British colors he is attached to the Royal Engineers, and that the war has not, so far, affected me materially or otherwise.
