Dear Mr. de Laszlo,

 

I must write & tell you how kind I think it of you to want to give me a wedding present. I am so touched at your charming thought of doing a sketch of my mother [3498].

As you well know nothing would give me greater pleasure than having a portrait of my mother done by you to have with me in my new house

 

My sister[1] will be coming over for the wedding so we will keep her portrait here till she comes. Thank you again so much for your charming & kind thoughts.

[1] Princess Andrew of Greece and Denmark, née Princess Alice of Battenberg (1885-1969) [6615]. Princess Alice was first painted by de László in 1907 [6615]. He painted a further two study portraits of the Princess in 1922 [6619][6620], the former remained in the artist’s studio until his death; the latter he presented to the sitter.
