Local arrangements

Each year we send out an updated version of your child’s Individual Health Care Plan (IHP) for parents to review and amend with any new information about their child’s needs or new medication. We also request new care plans for children who have emergency medication in place so that the new team working with the child can sign the relevant paperwork.

IHPs are kept in the classroom with the medication as it includes the agreement for giving the medication.  Each class has a register with the key children who have medication at school. This is kept in a plastic wallet with a ‘Green Cross’ on it so that there is access to all that need it.

Inhalers and Epipens are kept in the classroom. Epipens are kept in an orange medication bag with a tamper proof clip on it for safety. Medication is kept out of the reach of children.

Children with emergency medication for conditions such as epilepsy the medication is kept in a locked cupboard within a locked first aid room. Emergency insulin for diabetes is kept in the fridge in the locked first aid room in an orange medication box with a tamper proof clip on it.

All children with emergency medication are added to our ‘Red Alert’ information so that all staff know who to contact in an emergency for the child. These are updated throughout the year when staff trained for the medication.

Medications for conditions such as ADHD are kept in a locked drawer in the main office.

If your child has a new medical condition that needs medication please pick up an IHP from the main office and make sure that the medication has a pharmacy label on it clearly stating the child’s name, dosage and expiry date as we need all of the information to be able to administer it.

Pupil food allergy information is kept on our MIS system. All staff have access to these records and key allergy information is flagged up. Our catering company sends out each year forms to update staff of the children’s needs. Where required, meetings will take place with the catering manager to make sure the food will meet the dietary requirements of the child.
