ITE-WE Cinemas LOC Signing Ceremony

By Mr Mathew T Mathews, Senior Course Manager, Communication Technology

ITE signed a Letter of Collaboration (LOC) with WE Cinemas on 25 April 2012 at ITE College East. With the signing of the LOC, ITE will be partnering WE Cinemas to jointly organise a “Movies are Best in HD Digital” Video Competition from 25 Apr 2012 for a period of 1 month, which is open to all ITE students.

The outcome would be a 30-seconds public video messaging which will be screened in WE Cinemas to help create public awareness of the importance of high-definition digital technology. The collaboration would offer a platform for students to create original video messages based on a theme pre-defined by the industry.  Owing to the public-intent nature of the videos that would be produced, the partnership with WE Cinemas would also support the Ministry of Education’s mandate to introduce character and citizenship education into the classroom. With this joint initiative, ITE and WE Cinemas also hope to help create public awareness of the importance of high-definition digital technology, which is imperative to the survival of the industry.

This competition is ITE’s FIRST collaboration with a local cinema company. With this competition in place, we will be able to publish ITE students’ works nationwide in WE Cinemas whilst being able to spot talents and groom youths as cinema/media specialists. This would also be a good opportunity for past ITE graduates and current students who have undergone the feature film experiential learning to network with the media professionals.

The benefits of the collaboration are:

• A one-month internship placement with WE Cinemas to the top winner providing authentic learning that includes first hand learning for distribution and marketing of film.

• Screening of the winning entry in WE Cinemas for three months.

• Air time will be accorded to the other four top entries in WE Cinemas’ video wall for three months.

Infinite Frameworks will also be sponsoring a prize worth $5000 in kind in providing colour grading service for the winning team on their next short film which is redeemable within 3 years upon winning.
