Volunteer Position Descriptions

One time events

Boat Captains – Has a fishing boat and know how to fish.  Teaches and mentors Veteran’s and their families on fishing.  Willing to donate themselves and their boat for an event to support events for participants and the families.

Civic Outreach – Coordinator for local communities’ support for fishing events.  Integrates Community support with local organizations to conduct an event

Event Organizer – Organizes and conducts event.  Primary point of contact for event.  Coordinates with Veteran Outreach Support , Volunteer Organizer, and ensure site is setup.  Handles all issues day of the event.   

Fishing Club Outreach – Coordinator for local fishing club support for family fishing days and events.  Integrates the fishing club with other organizations to conduct an event.  Note:  The Fishing Club is typically responsible for planning and running the only the fishing portion of the event.

Fishing Support – Must know how to fish!  Teaches and mentors Veteran’s and their families on fishing, typically from the shore.

Forager – Finds food and water for Family Fishing Days or events.  Sources include restaurants, caterers, Veteran’s clubs, and tourism boards.

Problem Solvers – This is the person at an event that finds and fixes problems as they arise.  Assists in any area during an event to ensure that the event runs smoothly.

Runners – A pair of young legs that typically move equipment, supplies, and food/beverages from point “A” to the event.  Assists the event organizer to free up their time.

Setup – Responsible for setting up an event so that it is ready on time.  Picks up equipment and supplies and moves it to the event location.  Sets up signage, positions tables and trash cans, and prepares materials for distribution to Veteran’s and their families.

Shore Activities Organizer – Responsible for planning, organizing, and conducting activities on the shore for Veteran’s and their families that are not fishing.  Typically conducted on an Ad-hoc basis, but should be part of the event’s activities agenda.  Example of events in the past include:  Individual fly-fishing classes, and how to make lures.

Transportation – Normally, should have a vehicle.  Coordinates and arranges transportation for veterans and their families from pre-determined locations to the events and back from the event.  May include coordination with the local Veteran’s Affairs or Warrior Transition units to provide this transportation.

Veteran’s Club Outreach – Coordinator for local Veteran’s Clubs (American Legion, VFW, etc…) to support for fishing events.  Integrates this support with other local organizations to conduct an event.  Typically, the Veteran’s club organizes the shore activities.

Videographer/Photographer – Takes pictures and/or film of the events to be used in support of other functions such as web site pages, Youtube videos, donor/sponsor recognition, and sharing with participants, volunteers and their families.

Recurring

Admin Support – Generates content for website, emails, and other correspondence.  Handles routine correspondence and participates in event planning.

Community Service Organizer – Works with High Schools and other organizations to leverage community service requirements with events.

Customer Relations – Basically, this function takes care of those people that have donated time, material, or other resources and lets them know how much it is appreciated.

Equipment Manager – Manages all of the fishing equipment used for Family Fishing Days.

Fundraiser – Must have a network that is willing to support either Family Fishing Days or events with funds.

Printing Support – Must have the capability to print materials for events and notification purposes.  This would include printing (approximately 100) of flyers, door hangers, or pamphlets and transporting them to the distributor volunteers.

Sponsor Development – Should have a network that will support this.  Finds and works with event sponsors for volunteer support, materials, and prizes.

Tourism Bureau Outreach – Coordinator for local Tourism Bureaus support for fishing events.  Integrates this support with other local organizations to conduct an event.  Support may include hotels, transportation, food/beverages, and/or prizes.

Transportation – Normally, should have a vehicle.  Coordinates and arranges transportation for veterans and their families from pre-determined locations to the events and back from the event.  May include coordination with the local Veteran’s Affairs or Warrior Transition units to provide this transportation.

Veteran Outreach Support – Performs actions to inform Veterans of upcoming events.  Includes emails, flyer development, and correspondence with Veterans and their families.  Finds solutions to issues to  assist in their attendance at events.

Veteran’s Club Outreach – Coordinator for local Veteran’s Clubs (American Legion, VFW, etc…) to support for fishing events.  Integrates this support with other local organizations to conduct an event.  Typically, the Veteran’s club organizes the shore activities.

Volunteer Organizer – Plans and coordinates volunteers for events to ensure event execution.

Website Support – Must have technical skills.  Assists in website development and posting of content onto the website and other social media.

Video Editor – Must have technical skills.  Creates video clips (1-10 minutes in length) from film and stills taken by the volunteer Videographers/Photographers.   Provides finished product to the website support.

Career & Leadership Education Mentor - Works in teams with instructor(s) to assist in group facilitation, event coordination and mentoring of workshop participants.
