The Holland Christian Jazz Bands and the Old Timer's Jazz Band are proud to present the Swingin’ the Night Away in the HCHS cafeteria TONIGHT from 6:45 to 9 pm. Admission is $5, and goes to support the music program at HCHS. -New to swing dancing? No worries! Dance instructors will be on hand to teach us the basic steps of swing, so the evening can be enjoyed by novice and experienced dancers alike. (6:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.) -Not in the mood for dancing? Come socialize, indulge in some delicious desserts, punch, and enjoy the music of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington and more. -Want to attend, but also keep up on your March Madness bracket? The Holland Youth Advisory Council is taking applications for next year. The Holland Youth Advisory Council (HYAC) seeks to develop leadership skills; provide advice regarding youth issues; serve our community; and promote youth participation and civic involvement. Students grades 9-11 can apply for membership in HYAC for the upcoming school year. HYAC students are required to attend 1-2 meetings per month. Holland Christian High School and the Holland High School music departments welcome internationally renowned bassist and Mack Avenue recording artist Rodney Whitaker to the HCHS stage for a concert and a day of clinics with HCHS and HHS students. Whitaker is a Michigan State University distinguished professor of jazz double bass and a lifetime member of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. Don’t miss this must-see concert this Saturday, March 23, at 7:00pm in the HCHS auditorium. The evening will feature both the HHS and HCHS jazz ensembles, as well as Rodney Whitaker and friends with vocalist Rockelle Fortin. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students. HCHS SAILING TEAM - sailing season is almost here! The spring season is April 2, 2019 - May 30, 2019. No previous sailing or racing experience necessary! Practices are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays 3:30 - 6:30. (Feel free to begin the season after HC's spring break if you will be out of town.) Come get the boats ready for the season on March 28 from 3:30 - 6:30 at Macatawa Bay Yacht Club. Parent and sailor meeting to follow at 6:30. Come one, come all to the Holland Christian Schools Band Extravaganza for a wonderful night of music next Tuesday, March 26. HC's 5th, 6th, Middle School, and High School Bands will perform at the Jack H. Miller Center for the Musical Arts on Hope College's campus at 7:00pm. Hear a wide variety of musical styles and sounds and you won't want to miss the closer featuring over 200 musicians combined!
