Internet marketing company maryland: 25 local marketing pages, 13 cited by AI answers

Case Study: therankingstore.com and "internet marketing company maryland"

The situation

therankingstore.com is The Ranking Store's own website. It is run by the same owner as The Ranking Factory, and it is not a client — the site was treated as a working test bed for the same publishing software The Ranking Store sells. The question it had to answer was a practical one: when people ask an AI assistant for digital marketing and local SEO help near them, in Havre de Grace and elsewhere in Maryland, or ask how to rank in Google's map pack and how to rank a Google My Business listing, does the site have anything to be cited?

At the time, it largely did not. The Ranking Factory had listed these local and digital marketing subjects as gaps on the site.

What was done

Between August 28 and October 14, 2026, The Ranking Factory — The Ranking Store's own software — wrote and published 25 pages on therankingstore.com on local and digital marketing, one subject per page. Among them were pages on digital marketing near me, online marketing in Havre de Grace, local SEO companies in Maryland, Google map pack rankings and local SEO software.

A single subject per page was the point. A question put to an AI assistant is usually narrow, and a page that answers exactly that question gives the assistant a clean, unambiguous source to draw on. Each of the 25 pages was then submitted to IndexNow, the protocol used to notify participating search engines that URLs have been created or updated (IndexNow), rather than waiting for a crawler to find them unaided.

How it turned out

By October 21, 2026, 13 of the 25 pages (52%) had been cited by at least one AI answer. The first citation came on September 9. Seven of the cited pages appeared in answers to a question that did not name The Ranking Store, meaning the content was reached on the strength of its subject rather than a branded query.

The citations were spread across assistants. Perplexity Sonar cited 12 of the pages, OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Luna cited 4, Google Gemini cited 3 and DeepSeek cited 2. Google AI Overviews were the first to cite 2 of the pages.

The site's crawler log recorded search crawlers fetching all 25 pages between October 9 and October 21, 2026. Twenty-four of the 25 were fetched by a verified crawler.

What the record shows

The pages were written and published by The Ranking Store's own software on The Ranking Store's own site, with no client relationship involved. The outcome is documented at the level of individual pages: which were cited, in what quantity, by which assistant, and which were fetched by verified crawlers. That record shows what happened to these 25 pages over this period, and it is the basis on which the same approach is applied elsewhere.
