Friday 14 October 2016 – Term 4 - Week 1
VALUE FOCUS FOR NEXT TWO WEEKS: Honesty and Independence
From The Principal
Kia ora tatou katoa, Annyong Haseyo, Talofa, Malo e lelei, Bula vi naka, Kia orana Nga mihi nui ki a koutou, Namaste, Nihao, Greetings to you all.
Welcome to Term 4, 2016. Welcome to all the new families at Elm Park School, we hope you enjoy your time here. It is hard to believe that we only have 10 weeks to go until the end of Term 4, 2016. There are heaps of activities planned and I know everyone will have an exciting time.
Just a friendly reminder to NAME all the articles of clothing/uniform that your children wear to school as it is very easy to misplace these and very difficult to track them to the rightful owner when they are not named. Please check the lost property box outside Room 9 in the corridor if your child has misplaced an item. Please also ensure that your children are wearing the correct uniform as we want our school to look smart. No coloured clips or headbands other than black, blue or white. Jewellery can be dangerous to others, so the children are only allowed to wear stud earrings. It is a good idea not to wear special items around their neck as we cannot ensure that they are safe. Shoes need to be BLACK only and sensible as so many shoes are impractical for school wear and break easily. If your child is not able to wear the correct uniform for a day please send a note to the teacher.
This term is a ‘hat wearing term’ believe it or not with this weather, but we encourage our students to wear hats when they are outside to protect them from the sun. NO HAT NO PLAY. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.
Swimming will start for Years 4-6 this term. The pool will be ready next week so please remind your child to bring their named swimming gear in a named waterproof =/*bag.
Last term there were a small number of children who were disrespecting the staff by swearing and not listening to them. Please remind your children that we expect a very high standard of behaviour at Elm Park School. Where necessary, we will be taking steps to ensure this level is upheld. If this is not adhered to we will be forced to take further steps to ensure that this happens. This requires a level of support from families as teachers cannot do everything.
Many children are being left at school and not collected until 4.00pm - school finishes at 3.00pm. If you are unable to pick your children up at 3.00 pm, from now on they will be sent to Kids Korner to be supervised and you will be charged for the service. After school the teachers are very busy in meetings and professional development opportunities and cannot ensure that your children are supervised.
Now that I have all that out of the way I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Looking Ahead
UNIFORM - As of Term 1, 2017 the old light blue uniform shirts will no longer be an acceptable part of the school uniform. The new uniform has been in effect for some years now, to allow parents the opportunity to phase the new uniform in slowly. We are now at the point where it is time for the old uniform to be phased out completely. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

Focus on Children
In Room 5 we have been learning how to collage. This involved sketching, cutting, a lot of gluing and patience.
We hope you enjoy the hard work we put into our art work.
