Part 1. Obedience to The Lord Jesus

Lesson 11. Obedience to the Lord Jesus in the aspect of body and soul

The basic verse of this message: "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14).

1. Where the content of the soul guides the born again?

The need to consider obedience to the Lord in the aspect of body and soul arose due to the fact that the born-again spirits are often guided by the physical senses in matters where their leadership can be, and sometimes even becomes, fatal.

When we use the word “soul” in our lessons, we are talking primarily about the mind and its contents, about the wisdom with which it is filled.

Perhaps someone will ask: “And how could worldy and devilish wisdom appear in the minds of the born-again spirits?”

Considering that after repentance, the spirit of man is born again, not the soul and the body. The wisdom of the world does not appear, but still remains in the soul (mind) as what was put into the soul before repentance by the cursed godless world...

This is clearly seen in the word “devilish”: …earthly, sensual, devilish (James 3:15). Thereby, speaking as its source, and about those who are guided by it, - demons. One of the meanings of the word “demon” – fallen angel, spiritual being. This shows the level and the order of values of the fallen angelic beings. This is how the fallen angels see life in the natural physical world, it is their approach to the values, it is their level of understanding. That is, to whom this order of values unites man and to whom it is given place.

The wisdom of the fallen angels in the human mind makes it spiritually blind, blinding the person at the level of the soul (mind). As it is written: But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world (satan) hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. (2 Corinthians 4:3-4).

He blinded a man not by wearing a bandage on his eyes, but after they formed a distorted order of the values embedded in the human mind, it eclipsed the mind. The mind eclipse - is an expression familiar to many, and it has a purpose, which is called "spiritual blindness". Spiritual blindness - one of the most widespread manifestations of the wisdom of the world, among the unbelievers and the believers. For man, it is impossible to hide from it, but in order to see it, it is necessary to equip ourselves with the relevant truths of God's wisdom.

And, surprisingly, there are believers who strongly believe that this is how they should live - infamous and cursed life. It is not hard to guess what kind of wisdom guides them. Wordly wisdom will distort all the verses of Scripture that speak of the glorious and blessed life, and will present them as something that applies only to the spiritual blessings, and in any case, not material. So, through the planting of the wisdom of the world in the mind of man, Satan captures human life under his influence. The man without knowledge, all he says and does corresponds to the will of Satan. So:

Even from what has already been said, it is clear that the worldly wisdom, sensual, devilish will withdraw from your obedience to the Lord Jesus.

1. To where does the content of the soul guides the born again?

Question: “Where do the contents soul, filled with the wisdom of the world lead the born-again spirit to?” Every born-again spirit need to know the answer to this question, because sometimes born-agains are awaiting from the soul what it does not have, or involve it in those issues in which the contents of the soul (mind) can lead to problems. One of such issues - is obedience to the Lord Jesus. Attention!

In general, this wisdom in life of the born-again spirit is called natural man or the soul of the born-again spirit. It is written: “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” (1 Corinthians 2:14).

Born again at some stage of his life also may be called "soul", while he basically guided by what he is told by his senses. So, for some time remain spiritual babes, as it is written: “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul” (Genesis 2:7).

Yes, by their own spirit, they are born again, but so far in their mind (soul) can not and do not know how to follow the Holy Spirit and how to use the written word of God. A spiritual babe is guided by the five senses. it is written: “…That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all” (Galatians 4:1), and more: “…but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual” (1 Corinthians 15:46). Until born again spirit becomes spiritual, he will be guided by what his senses said to him through his mind. Consequently:

Using the word fleshly or soul, the emphasis is on what the person is guided by.

It is obvious that the natural man mainly involves his mind, emotion, and will.

Question: “But what’s in the mind of the born again spiritual infant?” The wisdom of the world. Godless wisdom of this world in the human mind creates the image, allegedly, of who he is and what he's thinking, focusing his attention on what is important not for the wisdom of the world itself, but for its author - a fallen angel. Thus, taking attention of the born-again spirit from glory of God, prepared for the person by God.

Values of wisdom of the world is mainly aimed at replenishing the bodily needs, to care only about it and on what can be achieved by using only it and the existing methods in this world.

The real achievement of Satan towards man became a belief in the heart. Many people know the expression, "I believe in my heart." These words deliver to Satan a delight with his win over a child of God - man. This is how Satan drew attention to the spiritual creation (man), what he is going through in his mind and what comes out of it, where Satan has put wisdom above the earth.

So, when a man says: “I believe in my heart”, man, without realizing it says: “It is important for me what only my mind tells me about God.” And easy to guess who through the mind (wisdom of the world) will represent the values of God, and on the value of which god, they were sent from. All values presented in mind, basically will always keep away from the Spirit of truth, and, especially, from obedience to the Lord Jesus.

The Holy Spirit through the Apostle Paul, wishing to direct the born-again, says: “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16). Attention!

The flesh (body) itself can only speak about what it feels through the senses on the central nervous system and reports as external and internal in the body of the event. What to do with the incoming information to the mind and how to react to it and what decisions to make, is not decided by the flesh but the mind (soul), being guided by the wisdom that it already has. And if in the mind (soul) of man worldly wisdom prevails, and it will guide man in making decisions. What subsequently becomes evident through the fact that man does or says, and in general it will be a manifestation of the wisdom that guides people. So, it is important to know for the born-again spirit:

Attention! Wisdom of the world defends the interests of the body, not because it wants to give to it the joy, the good or the peace. No. But because it is only through the senses, that Satan can control spiritual creation (man), even the born-again. And as long as the spirit of man allows its body through the soul (mind) govern itself, Satan will easily affect a man, making him disobedient to God, thereby exposing his body and his life to all that is happening in the lives of God's enemies. That is:

Here's how the Holy Spirit spoke about this through the Apostle Paul, we read: “For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do, the things that ye would” (Galatians 5:17), in soul or what the mind says contrary to the will of God recorded in Bible.

“But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law” (Galatians 5:18), sin and death, that is to say Satan can not control and guide you.

“Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery …” (Galatians 5:19), it is not just the satisfaction of needs of the body, it is purposeful motivation of worldly wisdom that comes from the soul, in support of human body to make man give to Satan the legal power in mans' life.

And then: “…fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like…” (Galatians 5:19-21). Attention! Notice all of these actions and words of a man motivate him to do and to say what is in his soul - worldly wisdom.

“…of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:21), or will not see the glory of God, while living on earth, and not enter into eternal life with the Lord Jesus.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance…” (Galatians 5:22-23), all these are manifestations of the Holy Spirit through the human spirit, the manifestation of obedience to the desires of God.

“…against such there is no law” (Galatians 5:23), or a person is not under the influence of the law of sin and death, and, consequently, the power of Satan.

“And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit” (Galatians 5:24-25).

Attention! In your mind, there is nothing that will keep the focus of your attention to the eternal, spiritual valuable to your spirit. Your mind (soul) keeps in focus the needs of the body and what is associated with it. If you give the freedom of choice to your mind (soul), it will keep the focus of your attention only on your body needs, it will always affect the condition of your spirit.

Let's say you are married and you also have a cow. Question: “Who will be the main focus of your attention? To whom will you consciously devote more time?” Your Wife! You will be surprised, if I ask you: “Why?”

Now think about the words of God, spoken through the Apostle Paul: “…flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God…” (1 Corinthians 15:50).

And look what in your life is mainly the focus of your attention.

Which one of you has ever experienced such events: “You are very hungry, and responding to the need of the body, load up so that you felt bad?”

Which one of you saw a thing, and wanting it so much in your mind buying it, eventually began to realize that there was no strong need for it?

The wisdom of this world keeps in focus the attention of people something that does not give freedom of action of God in human life, something that has no value to God, something that is not the determining factor in where and with whom you will spend eternity. A good example is the words of Esau: “And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me? And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob. Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright” (Genesis 25:32-34).

What your mind (soul) does not care about is what will happen in eternity and from what exactly depends on the future of tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. You - are the spirit, it is important to you to decide for yourself to whom you will serve. Will you - serve God's Spirit, or be the servant of body and his needs, and through it - the spirit of this world?

King David, even though he was jealous of obedience to God, as soon as allowed his soul to possess him, he immediately picked up something that he could not take, - married Bathsheba. He was guided by what was in his mind (soul), he continued to do silly things, killing his loyal warrior - Uriah, Bathsheba's husband. Question: “What was the consequence of David's obedience to worldly wisdom emanating from his soul?” The child conceived died, and on David's family came a curse, which is constantly reflected on it.

The son of David, Amnon, his soul in accord with the flesh, strongly lusted after a daughter of David, his sister, and not wanting to do everything legally, subjected her to physical violence. Question: “Listening to the soul, what happened to Amnon as a result?” He was banished and subsequently killed.

Attention! Nonsense coming out of the mind (soul), as the fruit of the wisdom of the world, does not stop the humane attitude towards them, which stops the nonsense, because it is a stick. But the stick does not make the wise one who in his mind (soul) is guided by the wisdom of the world, it only stops the nonsense and the possible continuation of its. Therefore, if the wisdom of the world in the mind (soul) isn't replaced by the wisdom of God, it will again lead to a stick. written: “Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet will not his foolishness depart from him” (Proverbs 27:22), and also: “A reproof entereth more into a wise man than a hundred stripes into a fool” (Proverbs 17:10).

Considering that every born-again is always obedient to someone, this is what the Holy Spirit said that must be done, in order to avoid the constant influence of worldly wisdom in the mind: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:1-2).   Class «Glory».  Lesson 11.                                                       Page  from
