Lesson 3: NAFTA

Practice Activity

Instructions: Choose one of the following practice activities to complete. Be sure it will score well on the grading rubric.

OPTION 1

Pretend you are a member of the United States Senate. Also pretend that the Senate has to decide whether or not to renew its agreement economic alliance with Mexico and Canada, known as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Pretend that you are for remaining a part of NAFTA. However, the other senator from your state is against NAFTA. Persuade your fellow senator to vote “yes” to renewing NAFTA. You may choose the vehicle in which to persuade your colleague. In other words, you can try to persuade him/her by creating a video, multimedia presentation, letter, song, rap, poem, etc, etc. You choose what works best for you! Be sure to include all of the information at the bottom of the page.

OPTION 2:

 BE SURE TO INCLUDE:

• Demonstrate that you know what NAFTA is and what NAFTA does
• At least 3 reasons why you support/don’t support NAFTA
• Explain why the United States/Canada/Mexico would want to be in an economic alliance like NAFTA
• Explain how the United States, Canada, and Mexico have a close relationship with each other because of NAFTA
