Commenting

  • Chat → Uses:  questions during class for teacher or peers.  Can have this open inside rubric or other whole class document that is on display via projector during writing time
  • Only shows up when people are in a document - does not save
  • Appears in bottom right corner of document
  • Disabled for students, on for staff

  • Adding/Managing Comments
  • Highlight area within Doc to add comment & click comment bubble that appears on the right side of the highlighted line.
  • Type your comments in the right sidebar
  • People can “reply” to comments allowing a collaborative group to provide feedback.  
  • “Resolving” comments causes them to disappear from right side of Doc, but can be recalled.
  • Comment History: Comments remain in the document until they are resolved or deleted. A COMPLETE history of all comments can be viewed and re-opened at anytime by clicking

  • Comment Visibility & Notifications
  • Visible and used only by those with edit or comment access to highlight text and add a comment.  
  • NOTE for Classroom Users: When students “Turn In” Docs, the permission reverts to “View Only” which means kids won’t be able to see your comments until you “Return” student work.
  • Notifications can be turned on or off to notify editors that comments have been added.  Comment history stays with the document, even after they have been resolved or deleted.Notepad.png

  • Suggesting Mode
  • “Suggesting Mode - similar to “Track Changes” in Microsoft  Word
  • Suggested add more details here changes are added to the body of document + adds a “comment” box off to the right
  • Students can “accept” suggestion which will cause the suggested text to be added to their Doc, or “reject” causing suggested text to be removed.

Revision History

  • Revision History:  Viewing revision history can help to show students how their writing has progressed over time.  It can also be a way to analyze how students are using their time and how frequently they are revising work.
  • Track who made changes over the lifetime of a document.  
  • Restore previous versions quickly and easily.  
  • Allows teachers to see each individual’s contribution to a group project
