Asus Play It Cool ESL Ladder Marathon

Over the weekend popular Hearthstone streamers Forsen, Reynad, Savjz, and Kungen played on fresh Hearthstone accounts for 24 hours to see who could achieve the highest rank.

Winner’s Controversy

Forsen quit playing 3 hours early when he achieved Rank 4 - 3 Stars. Forsen was originally told by an admin that Star counted, so he stopped playing so as not to risk losing any Stars to a loss. With less than 40 minutes left in the tournament Forsen was then informed that Stars didn’t count so he started to play Hearthstone again. A few minutes later a final official update came in that Stars did in fact count. So Forsen tanked his rating, when he could have continued playing Tetris and won without question. Instead he tied with Savjz, ended up playing a Bo1 tiebreaker against him (agreed upon by the players since they were both so tired after streaming for 24 hours), and lost.

What should have been a fun and unique event was sadly mismanaged to the point where we are all left with a bad taste in our mouth. Grats to Savjz for winning, but hats off to Forsen for taking it very well considering the circumstances.

All signs point to a $250k Archon Tournament

Multiple eSports websites are running stories saying their sources are saying a Team Archon-hosted Tournament with a $250k prize pool is just around the corner. While no official details are out, so take all of this as you will, it is said to be an invitation-only weekly league.

Dear Irate Coqs and Indigent Hen,

I've been listening to the show since you started and have been playing HS since beta. I look forward to listening to each new episode every week on my commute to work and can't tell you how much I enjoy the show. I wanted to write this afternoon to tell you (Dills especially) that I have been playing your milkshake deck on ladder the past few hours and have never had this much fun playing HS. The only thing that could have made it better was seeing the look on the mage's face when I had 4 Kel'Thuzads on my board and their golden Emperor Thaurissan. I don't want to get called out by detective Dills so I'll explain. KT #1 mindvision turn 1, KT#2 mindvision turn 2, KT#3 Faceless Manipulator turn 5, KT #4 Faceless Manipulator turn 6, Thaurissan made me really scratch my head because I stole his Mirror entity with Kezan Mystic turn 7, then they played right into it with their Thaurissan turn 8. I have to give my opponent some credit though; I would have conceded long before they did on turn 9.

Thanks again for all the great content. Please keep up the good work.

Hello displeased gallus gallus domesticuses.

Suppose by some miracle you have been hired at Blizzard to work on the next expansion. They want to introduce another tribe into the game but have run out of ideas. What tribe would you make? (You could say elementals, but that would be boring because many people have already had that idea.)

Hello Maniacal Manoks (that's Tagalog for chicken),

I had a shower thought today about Hearthstone. What do you guys think about being able to have matches where you can put up wagers for gold or dust? As a free-to-play player, I think this would be a cool way to get some extra gold or dust that would not be particularly exploitative. Blizzard could limit the amount of gold or dust available for betting per match (like 50g or 50 dust) and also limit the amount of wagered matches an account could do (1 per day). If implemented with these limitations, I don't see how people could game the system for an unfair advantage. Also, I think it would be pretty fun option to have for anyone interested. What do you guys think? Keep up the great work!

Ahoy, affronted anconas!

I can't get over how cool the Thaurissan card mechanic of permanently reducing the mana cost of cards in your hand is.  What other ways would you like to see this type of mechanic used in future cards?

(For example, I think it'd be cool to have a minion that, at the end of your turn, adds +1 spellpower to all minions in your hand.)

Thanks for the wonderful podcast!
