President’s Message 2017-2018
When my husband and I moved to Valley Ranch from out of state five years ago, one of the first things I did after settling into our home was to look for a ‘Newcomers Club’. What I found instead, to my continuing delight, was The Coppell Women’s Club. Newcomers, old-comers, women from all over Texas, many from other states, even a few from other countries. I was welcomed with a big dose of southern hospitality and began an affiliation that has nurtured friendship, cultivated new interests and presented opportunities to serve our local community. I’m honored to serve as your president for the 2017-2018 season. I feel fortunate to have met so many wonderful women over the past five years and look forward to meeting more as new members join our club.
The mission of the Club is to promote friendship and a strong community among all women who have an interest in Coppell, and to provide social, charitable, cultural and educational opportunities. We’re open to women of all ages from Coppell and surrounding areas.
The first Wednesday of each month from September through May we hold a general meeting or a luncheon. For our general meetings, we have programs on a variety of topics of interest to our membership. Prior to the program we enjoy a half-hour of refreshments and socializing followed by a short period of time for announcements. In December we hold our Holiday Luncheon, complete with local vendors purveying a variety of unique products. In May we like to choose a fun theme for our spring luncheon, which serves as our last official meeting of the season.
Our many Special Interest Groups (SIG’s) form the core of our activities. These are smaller groups of women who get together regularly to engage in activities of mutual interest. We currently have about twenty-five SIG’s, ranging from Lunch Bunch and Excursions to Golf, Bridge and Mahjong to Movies, Dining Out, and Gourmet Cooking. Not to mention several book clubs. Do you have a special interest you’d like to share? You’re likely to find some takers among our membership! In August, we convene for a Welcome Back Coffee at which the coordinators of each SIG provide information and an opportunity to sign up. This is an excellent opportunity for potential members to learn more about our club.
If you’re looking for an opportunity to engage with a group of active, fun and supportive women, I hope you’ll check us out!
