New Challenges and New Perspectives on ELT: The Road Less Travelled

Edilson Souza

Abstract: English Language Teaching has made a huge impact in so many teachers’ lives that the more they dare themselves into the art of teaching and becoming the best professionals they can, the more challenges they find. Teaching in public institutions, embracing diversity, thinking of motivational teaching, being a creative teacher are only some of the issues that have been discussed in the field, and although we might think these are not new, we ought to be more aware of them because they have challenged teachers no matter what they teach. It is also an exciting moment as we have a new board taking over our Chapter with more ideas, dedication and, above all, passion to continue to make BTRN as thriving a community as it has always been. Robert Lee Frost (1864-1963), in his poem “The Road Not Taken”, gives us a positive view on what it means to find new routes in the face of new challenges and new perspectives: “(…) Two roads diverged in a wood, and I - / took the road less traveled by, / and that has made all the difference”.
