Will I have a certified teacher?

Vikings Online courses are taught by experienced highly qualified, state-certified virtual teachers.  Academic support is available by these experienced teachers virtually as well. Students will also have a Marysville Public Schools On-Site Proctor (mentor).

How is instruction given in a Vikings Online experience?

There are a variety of methods for instruction depending on the particular courses and their requirements ranging from digital textbooks, teacher-led videos, interactive media, online simulations, readings, discussion boards, and assessments.

Why is orientation an important part to being a student in Vikings Online?

Being a student online will be a shift for many learners. Our goal is to provide every possible resource to support your academic success.

What is the workload?

This is a common question for students and parents considering a remote learning experience.  While the coursework and assignments can be done when they fit a student’s schedule, there is still an expectation of regular work in all courses. A general rule of thumb is about 2-3 hours per week for each content area in grades K-8 and 5-7 hours for high school courses.

Do students have to login every day?

Most Vikings Online courses are designed to be primarily self-paced, however the teachers may provide a recommended calendar and timeline to stay on track.  Typically, we suggest spending about the same amount of time each week that the student would be in class, 5-7 hours, to stay on track with course work. Students can choose a time that works best for them during the day, allowing flexibility in their schedule.

How does grading work in Vikings Online?

Grading will closely align with traditional Marysville Public Schools classrooms, and have both formative and summative assessments. Feedback will be continual and timely in an effort to maintain high levels of student success.

What if students have questions or need help?

Vikings Online has several supports available for students who may need help.

Virtual Teachers are always in communication with students via e-mail, phone, and web conferencing to reteach difficult concepts and ensure students are on track for success.

Concept Coaches are available for middle school and high school students six days per week, Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm, and Saturday from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm.

These expert tutors are available on-demand six days a week. Students can directly reach Concept Coaches through online chat tools and interactive whiteboards. When interacting with a Concept Coach, students get real-time, one-on-one tutoring in middle- and high-school core subject areas, helping ensure that they understand the material in their courses and can move on without struggling.

All K-12 students will have a Marysville Public Schools On-Site Proctor (mentor) who can provide reteaching, enrichment, and accommodations from an IEP or 504 plan.

Are Vikings Online students eligible to play on Marysville sports teams or participate in extracurricular activities?

Yes. However, there are requirements that must be met in order to comply with the Michigan High School Athletic Association. If you have further questions, please contact the district athletic director, Erin Schweihofer (
